Job Description

GHD has an opportunity for a Senior Project Manager to join our Canada West Team's Contamination Assessment and Remediation Group.

We are seeking a client-facing project professional with strong environmental consulting experience and demonstrated success delivering oil & gas and energy-sector projects, including upstream, midstream, downstream, or related operating environments. This role is intended to work as a peer alongside other Project Managers on the team, bringing the confidence and judgment to manage moderately complex to complex projects while helping strengthen project delivery practices across the group.

The successful candidate will lead environmental site assessments, reclamation, and remediation projects, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, manage scope, schedule, budget, and risk, and provide practical guidance and coaching to new graduates and early-career professionals.

The role is to be based in GHD's downtown Calgary office, with flexibility to work from home up to two days per week, as well as complimentary parking before 9:00 a.m.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities and will see you involved in:

Leading intermediate to complex environmental projects, ensuring clear scope, schedule, budget, resourcing, risk, and execution plans are in place from initiation through closeout.

Managing day-to-day project execution as a trusted peer within the PM team, including evaluation of performance, risks, issues, changes, and dependencies while coordinating internal teams and external partners to maintain delivery, quality, and expected outcomes.

Serving as a client-facing project lead by maintaining regular communication with clients and internal stakeholders on project progress, financial performance, regulatory obligations, emerging risks, and upcoming milestones.

Coordinating the retention and oversight of vendors, subcontractors, and partner teams, ensuring consistent standards for field execution, site access requirements, health and safety expectations, and quality outcomes across oil & gas and energy-sector projects.

What you will bring to the team:

  • Demonstrated experience delivering environmental projects for oil & gas or energy-sector clients, with accountability for client relationships, project performance, and delivery excellence on moderately complex to complex assignments.
  • Intermediate to senior project management capability across scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, and resource management, with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams in a structured, practical, and collaborative way.
  • Ability to work effectively as a peer to other Project Managers while bringing sound judgment, ownership, and calm leadership to more complex project situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence leading client discussions, coordinating internal stakeholders, mentoring developing professionals, and delivering clear project reporting.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in environmental consulting, including environmental remediation and site assessments, report writing, data management and interpretation, project management, and client management, preferably with significant exposure to oil & gas projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Experience guiding or mentoring junior technical staff, new graduates, or early-career professionals within a consulting project delivery environment would be considered an asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for client meetings, project coordination, and occasional field or site visits is required.
  • Familiarity with analytics dashboards and data management practices that support compliance tracking and decision-making.
