Heavy Civil Project Manager - Construction Materials Testing & Special Inspections

Atlas is seeking a Heavy Civil Project Manager to lead our Construction Materials Testing (CMT), Special Inspections, and Field Services operations in Lakewood, Colorado. This is an exceptional opportunity for a proven construction professional who enjoys balancing technical expertise, client relationships, operational leadership, and team development.

In this role, you'll take ownership of major infrastructure and heavy civil projects that help shape communities throughout Colorado. From overseeing project execution and mentoring technical staff to driving client satisfaction and financial performance, you'll play a vital role in delivering quality results on some of the region's most important construction projects.

What You'll Do

As a key leader within our Construction Services team, you will:
  • Lead, mentor, and develop technicians, inspectors, and field personnel while fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence
  • Manage multiple construction materials testing and special inspection projects from kickoff through closeout
  • Coordinate staffing, scheduling, workload distribution, and resource planning to ensure successful project delivery
  • Partner with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders to provide responsive service and trusted technical solutions
  • Review and approve testing reports, inspection documentation, and project deliverables for accuracy and compliance
  • Monitor project budgets, billing, profitability, and financial performance
  • Prepare scopes, proposals, and cost estimates to support new business opportunities
  • Resolve project challenges quickly and effectively while maintaining client confidence and project momentum
  • Champion Atlas' Safety Culture by ensuring compliance with PPE requirements, safety protocols, and company initiatives

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections, Heavy Civil Construction, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field services
  • Prior experience leading teams, coordinating field operations, or managing projects
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, testing procedures, and industry standards including ASTM, ACI, AASHTO, and CDOT requirements
  • Ability to interpret construction plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and technical documents
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing multiple projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to support field operations as needed

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active progression toward licensure
  • Experience managing heavy civil, transportation, roadway, bridge, water/wastewater, or vertical construction projects
  • Existing relationships within the Colorado construction and engineering market

    The expected salary range for the position is displayed in accordance with the state's law. Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
