Description
Project Manager, Clean Fuel Energy & Project Development

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Project Manager to lead carbon credit project work across both Canada's Clean Fuel Regulation (CFR) and the broader voluntary and compliance offset markets. You will own a portfolio of active projects end-to-end, mentor junior analysts, and serve as a senior point of contact for clients and internal stakeholders. This is a high-ownership role for someone who combines deep technical knowledge of carbon markets with the ability to drive delivery, manage relationships, and develop the team around them.

What you'll do

CFR & clean fuel program analysis

  • Lead Carbon Intensity (CI) modeling and pathway analysis for compliance projects under Canada's Clean Fuel Regulation (CFR) and BC Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), applying lifecycle analysis (LCA) frameworks and ECCC-approved methodologies
  • Oversee project eligibility assessments and credit generation modeling across CFR project types including EV aggregation, Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), hydrogen, and fuel switching initiatives
  • Interpret and apply CFR regulatory requirements, ECCC guidance documents, and approved carbon intensity pathways to project contexts - identifying compliance gaps, documentation risks, and credit optimization opportunities
  • Monitor regulatory developments from ECCC including updates to the CFR framework, approved fuel pathways, and compliance period requirements, and translate these into actionable guidance for clients and junior team members
  • Build, review, and maintain financial models to evaluate project economics, CFR credit issuance forecasts, and return profiles under varying CI outcomes and carbon price scenarios

Offset project analysis & due diligence

  • Lead technical and commercial due diligence on prospective carbon offset projects across voluntary and compliance markets, including review of Project Design Documents (PDDs), Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) reports
  • Quantify emissions reductions and/or removals across project types including biogas. Other sectorial experience such as agriculture, cookstoves, renewable energy, blue carbon, and REDD+ is considered a plus.
  • Prepare and present structured due diligence reports and investment memos summarizing findings and recommendations for internal stakeholders and clients
  • Stay current on evolving standards and methodologies across Verra, Gold Standard, ICVCM, and other voluntary and compliance frameworks, and apply these to active project work
  • Support registry and compliance platform interactions, including registry account management, project listing reviews, and documentation management

Project & Portfolio Management

  • Own a portfolio of active CFR and offset projects, managing timelines, milestones, deliverables, and client communications from origination through credit issuance
  • Track and monitor active project performance against projected credit issuance schedules and flag material deviations to senior leadership with recommended corrective actions
  • Develop and maintain project plans, status reports, and client-facing materials to ensure alignment across internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Identify and escalate risks across the project lifecycle, including regulatory, technical, and commercial risks, and develop mitigation strategies
  • Work closely with junior team members on active projects, providing hands-on guidance, reviewing their analytical outputs, supporting day-to-day problem solving, and contributing to their professional development through structured feedback and knowledge-sharing

Research & market intelligence

  • Monitor CFR policy developments, compliance period updates, and emerging project types to inform the team's pipeline and client strategy
  • Contribute to internal research outputs including project pipeline reports, CFR market briefings, and sector analyses
  • Support BD and senior leadership with market intelligence, pitch materials, and client-facing analyses as required

What you bring
  • 3-6 years of experience in carbon markets, clean fuel programs, climate finance, or environmental consulting, with direct exposure to CFR, LCFS, or voluntary offset frameworks
  • Demonstrated experience managing carbon projects end-to-end, including client management, regulatory submissions, and credit issuance processes
  • Working knowledge of Carbon Intensity modeling, lifecycle analysis (LCA), and fuel pathway quantification under Canada's CFR or BC LCFS
  • Familiarity with voluntary carbon market standards including Verra, Gold Standard, and ICVCM, and experience reviewing PDDs, MRV reports, and validation/verification documentation
  • Strong financial modelling and quantitative analysis skills; advanced proficiency in Excel is essential
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and communicate progress clearly to internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical and regulatory information into clear, structured written and verbal outputs
  • Background in environmental science, chemical or process engineering, economics, finance, or a related discipline

Nice to have
  • Familiarity with additional compliance carbon markets such as California LCFS, EU ETS, or other voluntary carbon frameworks
  • Knowledge of corporate net-zero frameworks including SBTi, VCMI, or the Oxford Principles
  • Experience managing or mentoring junior team members with a track record of developing analytical talent

You'll thrive here if you
  • Take ownership of complex, multi-stakeholder projects and see them through without being closely managed
  • Can move comfortably between deep technical detail and high-level client communication
  • Enjoy developing others and see team success as your own success
  • Are energized by the intersection of climate impact and commercial markets
  • Thrive in a fast-moving environment where the work is constantly evolving

Compensation

$75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
