Position Overview

Are you an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in roadway construction and asphalt paving operations? Helm is seeking a proactive individual who can successfully manage paving projects from planning through completion, collaborate with field teams and customers, and deliver exceptional results through effective project leadership.

This position is part of our Civil Division, located in our Freeport, IL office. Our Civil Division is responsible for executing roadway construction projects, including chip sealing and HMA paving. This role will oversee project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and execution while coordinating with field teams, clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and project stakeholders to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and successfully. This position is part of our Civil Division, located in our Freeport, IL office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage chip seal and HMA paving projects from contract award through project closeout.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts.
  • Coordinate paving operations, subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel.
  • Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents.
  • Monitor project costs and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Manage client relationships and serve as the primary point of contact throughout the project.
  • Prepare and manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation.
  • Review production reports, material quantities, and project performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with estimating and operations teams during project planning and execution.
  • Mentor project engineers and support field operations as needed.


Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of project management experience in chip seal and HMA paving.
  • A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent experience in heavy highway construction, roadway construction, or project management will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt paving operations, roadway construction, and paving equipment.
  • Experience managing DOT and municipal roadway projects preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, contracts, and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability to travel to project sites.


Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $75,000-$100,000 annually.
