Description
As a Project Geotechnical Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting key activities and project-related deliverables within the geotechnical engineering discipline. Your routine responsibilities may include coordination of subsurface exploration programs, geotechnical analyses, development of conceptual and numerical models, technical report writing, project management support, and client-relationship support. Construction observation and reporting may also be required at times in this role.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Leads or coordinates subsurface exploration programs and construction observation activities as needed. Ensures that work performed is consistent with project plans and specifications and in accordance with safety guidelines.
- Assists with training junior technical and technician staff in geotechnical field activities, analyses, and documentation.
- Completes engineering analyses and calculations for geotechnical applications, including static and dynamic analyses, dynamic soil-structure interaction, liquefaction and lateral spreading evaluations, seismic slope stability, ground improvement design, and nonlinear deformation analyses under the guidance of senior staff.
- Supports other complex geotechnical evaluations such as ground response, temporary and permanent shored excavation behavior, foundation and retaining structure design, earthwork, and pavement-related analyses.
- Develops project deliverables related to geotechnical engineering, including calculations, figures, tables, and supporting documentation for analyses and design recommendations.
- Leads the preparation of technical reports, figures, and tables for geotechnical projects and assists senior staff in completing portions of large, complex reports and performance-based design deliverables.
- Supports project management tasks such as budget planning, field report reviews, proposal development, and schedule coordination. Manages small projects under the supervision of a certified professional engineer or geologist as required.
- Gathers project-related field data and samples, including soil and groundwater data as needed, and coordinates laboratory testing to support geotechnical analyses and design.
- Completes detailed, accurate field reports.
Qualification- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's degree or PhD in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- 4+ years of related professional experience required.
- P.E. license required.
- Intermediate-level understanding of geotechnical software and related tools such as FLAC, PLAXIS, MathCAD, and related software, including familiarity with static and dynamic analyses, liquefaction evaluation, seismic slope stability, and nonlinear deformation modeling.
- Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced, collaborative work environment.
- Professional-level verbal and written communication skills.
Physical Requirements / Work Environment- Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities and do heavy work including exerting up to 50 pounds of force on occasion.
- Ability to perform consistent work on a PC with prolonged sitting and view of a monitor/screen.
- Ability to travel for short-term and long-term assignments as needed.

This also includes wearing appropriate safety equipment when working in the field and completing all required health and safety training prior to beginning fieldwork.
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position, located in Seattle, WA is $103,000 - $146,000 annually. Compensation offered will be based on a variety of individual factors, including education and experience, as well as internal equity. GeoEngineers' salary ranges are reviewed and updated each year and employees are eligible for pay increases based on individual performance. As part of our competitive total rewards package, employees in this role may also be eligible for our annual year-end bonus offering, subject to program eligibility requirements.
