Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW: As a Project Engineer at LJA Transportation, you will be responsible for leading and supporting a variety of traffic engineering projects, from traffic impact studies and signal design to corridor analyses and safety evaluations. You'll work closely with senior leadership, mentor junior staff, and contribute to both technical delivery and client engagement.

A TYPICAL DAY MIGHT INCLUDE:
  • Designs and develops traffic signal plans including signal layouts, phasing, timing, and coordination to ensure safe and efficient movement of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists
  • Lead and manage traffic engineering projects including traffic impact analyses, signal timing studies, and operational assessments
  • Develop and review traffic models using Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, and other industry-standard tools
  • Prepare technical reports, plans, and presentations for clients, agencies, and stakeholders
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including planners, roadway engineers, and environmental specialists
  • Ensure compliance with local, state (including FDOT), and federal standards and guidelines
  • Mentor junior engineers and analysts, providing technical guidance and quality assurance
  • Support proposal development and client relationship management

REQUIRED EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master's preferred).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required (Florida PE preferred).
  • PTOE Certification (preferred)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years of experience in traffic engineering or transportation planning.
  • Proficiency in traffic analysis software (e.g., Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, SIDRA) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience working with public agencies, especially in Florida.
  • Ability to build strong relationships

IDEALLY, YOU SHOULD ALSO HAVE:
  • Experience with FDOT projects, including familiarity with FDOT's Traffic Engineering Manual (TEM), Plans Preparation Manual (PPM), and project delivery processes.
  • Prior involvement in preparing or reviewing FDOT traffic studies, signal warrant analyses, or safety assessments.
  • Knowledge of Florida-specific traffic regulations and permitting processes.
