STRATUM LEVEL: 2

MAIN PURPOSE:

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading mine engineering and long-range planning functions for major capital projects. As Talon continues to grow as a company, the role may be required to support other projects, including but not limited to Eagle Mine, Boulder Dash, and the Battery Metals Processing Facility, where needed.

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIP:

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES/ACTIVITIES:

  • Lead by example, demonstrating commitment to Talon's core values: safety, respect, integrity, adaptability, and achievements.
  • Prepare, review, and validate underground mine designs, including development layouts, stope designs, access design, ventilation, material handling systems, backfill requirements, and supporting mine infrastructure.
  • Identify, assess, and help mitigate key technical, execution, operational, safety, permitting, and cost risks associated with the mine plan and related underground and surface designs.
  • Work collaboratively with Talon leadership, Eagle Mine operations, external consultants and contractors, environmental and permitting teams, and project services to ensure engineering assumptions are aligned across the organization.
  • Manage trade-off studies, value engineering, risk reviews, and project optimization work.
  • Support preparation of technical reports, internal and external presentations, regulatory submissions, and procurement documentation, as required.
  • Support other Talon projects, including Eagle Mine, Boulder Dash, and the Battery Metals Processing Facility, as required by business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • B.S. in Mining Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of technical and/or operations experience in underground mining.
  • Comprehensive understanding of underground mine safety principles and their application to mine design and planning.
  • Extensive experience in mine planning and mine planning systems; Deswik experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of mine ventilation.
  • Strong analytical abilities and effective communication skills.
  • Project management skills would be an asset.

KEY PERSONAL COMPETENCIES:

  • Safety Leadership - Consistently considers health, safety, environmental, and community impacts in engineering decisions and project recommendations.
  • Technical Judgment - Applies sound engineering principles, practical underground mining experience, and risk-based thinking to develop fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Action Oriented - Takes initiative, addresses issues in a timely manner, and drives work forward with limited supervision.
  • Collaboration - Works effectively across technical disciplines, consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to encourage alignment and avoid siloed decision-making.
  • Communication - Communicates clearly, concisely, and professionally through written reports, technical reviews, presentations, and day-to-day interactions.

  • Accountability / Managing Ambiguity - Follows through on commitments, escalates risks appropriately, and remains effective in a dynamic project environment where information may be incomplete or evolving.

HSEC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Although this is not an operational role, the Senior Project Engineer is expected to actively support Talon's HSEC objectives by applying sound engineering judgment, underground mining experience, and risk-based thinking to project designs, mine plans, technical evaluations, and execution planning. The role is expected to identify and help mitigate health, safety, environmental, and community risks during the study, design, planning, and project development phases.

  • Incorporate HSEC considerations into mine designs, schedules, infrastructure layouts, material handling concepts, ventilation plans, escapeway concepts, and other technical inputs.
  • Support design reviews, risk assessments, trade-off studies, and technical evaluations with consideration for safe construction, safe operation, environmental protection, regulatory compliance, and long-term project performance.
