Overview

MSA is seeking a Project Engineer - Mechanical or Plumbing Design to join our Jacksonville team. In this role, you will lead and support the planning, design, and construction of mechanical and plumbing systems for a variety of building and infrastructure projects. You will apply sound engineering judgment, coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, and help deliver high-quality work that supports our clients and strengthens the communities we serve.

 

Responsibilities

Mechanical & Plumbing Design

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical and plumbing systems from planning through construction
  • Perform and review engineering calculations, studies, reports, design documentation, and construction documents
  • Develop construction specifications, cost estimates, and schedules with a focus on accuracy and constructability
  • Use Microsoft Office, CADD, BIM, and modeling or analysis tools to produce clear, coordinated design deliverables

Project Delivery & Quality

  • Manage assigned technical tasks with minimal oversight while monitoring scope, schedule, and budget
  • Coordinate deliverables with internal teams, external partners, clients, and technical support staff
  • Review work completed by junior engineers, designers, and technicians for quality, consistency, and alignment with project goals
  • Support QA/QC processes and take ownership of technical accuracy across assigned project components

Field & Construction Support

  • Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction observations to verify existing conditions and support project design
  • Review construction progress, document observations, and help resolve technical challenges in the field
  • Confirm that work aligns with plans, specifications, design intent, and applicable standards

Client & Team Collaboration

  • Serve as a client contact for assigned tasks or projects, communicating updates with professionalism and sound judgment
  • Lead or co-lead project meetings related to technical updates, deliverables, schedules, and project needs
  • Maintain consistent communication with Project Managers and Team Leaders regarding workload, budgets, schedules, and staffing needs
  • Mentor junior staff by reviewing work, providing feedback, and supporting their professional growth
Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited program in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline

Experience

  • 4+ years of relevant post-graduate engineering experience
  • Experience in mechanical or plumbing design preferred
  • Experience supporting building and infrastructure projects preferred

Licensure

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Florida required
  • Multi-state licensure may be beneficial depending on project assignments

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, standards, and practices related to mechanical and/or plumbing design
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CADD, BIM, and relevant modeling or analysis software
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead project components, coordinate multidisciplinary work, and integrate input from multiple stakeholders
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple project demands
  • Ability to monitor scope, schedule, and budget and proactively identify project needs or concerns
  • Effective mentoring skills and a commitment to quality, accountability, and continuous improvement

Pay & Benefits*
  • Compensation Range: $79,000 3126,500 (commensurate with experience)
  • Flex Time (Remove for Hourly): Work 42 hours this week? Have 2 hours added to your Flex Time balance to use as time off in the future
