The RoleThe Project Engineer plays an important role in delivering utility scale solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects across the United States. This position supports projects from late stage development through construction and performance testing.
Working closely with development, engineering, construction and finance teams, the Project Engineer ensures that technical requirements are clearly defined, properly implemented and aligned with project schedules and budgets.
This role is ideal for an engineer with early career experience in utility scale renewable projects who is eager to deepen technical expertise while contributing to the delivery of complex infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities- Establish and manage engineering requirements within EPC contracts and project documentation
- Support the Tendering team in EPC contractor selection and contract negotiations
- Provide engineering support to the Project Management team during project execution
- Review and approve project designs, drawings and technical submittals during development and construction
- Manage external Owner's Engineers supporting design reviews and construction oversight
- Support engagement with Independent Engineers for third party project financing
- Conduct site visits to support construction progress and milestone verification
- Coordinate technical RFI responses and gather input from internal subject matter experts
- Provide technical diligence support for project finance activities
- Capture and share lessons learned to support continuous improvement in project delivery and operations
- Develop tools and processes to manage technical requests and track engineering deliverables
- Represent your discipline in development, delivery and stakeholder meetings as needed
Knowledge- Understanding of codes and regulations relevant to solar project construction
- Experience with engineering design for utility scale PV plants
- Familiarity with project financing structures and technical diligence requirements
- Knowledge of key industry stakeholders including EPC contractors, investors, technical advisors and independent engineers
- Understanding of PV technology, balance of system components and market trends
- Ability to interpret site documentation and technical reports
- Knowledge of EPC cost estimation methodologies based on project design
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited university
- Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD or SketchUp
- Experience with solar simulation tools such as PVsyst, PVSol, StorageVAT or similar platforms
- Willingness to travel up to 25% for project site visits and key project meetings
Experience- Up to 3 years of experience in a similar engineering role within renewable energy or infrastructure projects
- Utility scale solar PV design for construction, including high voltage substations
- Battery energy storage systems and integration with PV and high voltage infrastructure
- Civil design considerations for solar development including access roads, drainage and site hydrology
- Electrical system design including studies such as thermal ampacity, load flow, reactive power and protection coordination
- Energy resource assessment and project optimization
- Experience supporting solar PV construction activities, project documentation and technical reviews

Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range for this role is $105,000 to $120,000, plus a 15% annual bonus.
