Job Title: Project Engineer
Location: Houston, TX- Onsite
Job Summary: The Project Engineer supports the successful execution of product development projects by coordinating cross-functional teams, tracking progress, and ensuring timely achievement of key milestones. This role assists in planning, organizing, and managing projects across designated product lines, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to deliver results on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
This position will directly support the development, integration, and sustainment of Extravehicular Activity (EVA) spacesuit systems, with a primary focus on the Space Suit Assembly (SSA) in support of NASA programs. The Project Engineer will contribute to management of the full hardware lifecycle, from design and fabrication through test, verification, and operational readiness, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and adherence to critical human spaceflight safety standards.
Responsibilities: - Coordinate and monitor engineering projects from initiation through delivery
- Gather required data from end-users to evaluate objectives, goals, and scope to create technical specifications
- Serve as liaison between engineering and non-engineering departments to ensure that all targets and requirements are met
- Ensure engineering projects are completed on schedule and within budget
- Lead hardware failure investigations, facilitate root cause analysis (RCA), and drive implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) in coordination with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams
- Keep program managers and other project stakeholders informed of key issues that may impact project completion, budget, or other results
- Support project planning activity during pre-bid, proposal, negotiation and contract phases
- Briefs the NASA customer on the technical aspects of Extra-vehicular Mobility Unit (EMU) projects through project coordination meetings, status reports and other forms of communication
- Conducts routine tasks as directed
Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
- 4+ years of experience in manufacturing, engineering, or product development environment preferred
Preference: - Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and interface control documents (ICDs)
- Interest in project management and product development (PMP or CAPM a plus)
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Basic knowledge of project management methodologies and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Strong collaboration, problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively in team environments (including navigating constructive conflict)
- Experience with hardware development lifecycle including design, build, test, and qualification phases
- Experience supporting or participating in hardware failure investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation preferred
Travel & Work Arrangements/Requirements - Availability to travel up to 25 % of the time (e.g., customer visits, training at our technical centers, trade shows, etc.).
