What you will love about this position...

The Project Engineer is responsible for evaluating, assisting with the design, and developing projects and programs that when constructed will improve operation and energy efficiency or reduce energy costs of customer's buildings and facilities.

What you are responsible for...

To be successful in this position, one must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential duties and responsibilities listed in the functions below:

Project Management and Development
  • Develop and assist with the design of operational improvement and energy conservation projects
  • Review architectural, mechanical, or electrical plans to evaluate energy efficiency and/or feasibility
  • Evaluate construction design information like drawings, design calculations, system layouts, and sketches
  • Visit job sites to collect data for development of designs that lead to improved operation, energy savings, and occupant comfort
  • Inspect or monitor energy systems including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) or lighting systems for energy usage and potential energy savings
  • Analyze historic energy use data to establish baseline energy performance and trends
  • Assist with customer presentations and meetings

Cost Estimation and Budgeting
  • Estimate energy savings potential with various modeling and analyses techniques
  • Determine project costs through in-house estimating and/or bid procurement
  • Develop construction project budgets and timelines that meet project objectives and ensure that project components are in line with federal and state laws or other regulations

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification


Key Knowledge and Skills
  • Proficient in the practical application of mathematical concepts such as probability, statistics, fractions, percentages, and ratios
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
  • Competent in interpreting technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form for practical problem solving
  • Ability to analyze and interpret scientific journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community
  • Knowledge of building and construction principles and processes
  • Ability to write speeches and articles for publication
  • Proficient with software tools (MS Word, MS Excel, HVAC Load Design software like Carrier HAP, and Computer Aided Design, preferably AutoCAD)
