Key Responsibilities
• Manage and execute capital and improvement projects from initial concept through design, procurement, construction, and startup.
• Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
• Coordinate with operations, maintenance, and process engineering teams to identify plant improvement opportunities.
• Review and approve engineering drawings, equipment specifications, and contractor deliverables.
• Support procurement activities including equipment selection, vendor evaluation, and bid reviews.
• Monitor project budgets and schedules, providing regular status updates to management.
• Ensure projects comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
• Participate in hazard reviews, risk assessments, and safety reviews (e.g., PHA, HAZOP).
• Oversee contractors and construction activities during project execution.
• Troubleshoot mechanical and process equipment issues related to project installations.
• Develop and maintain project documentation including reports, drawings, and operating procedures.
• Support plant commissioning, startup, and performance verification of new systems.
Working Conditions
• Work is performed in both office and industrial plant environments.
• Frequent field work requiring use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Ability to climb ladders, walk long distances, and work in varying weather conditions.
• Occasional work during plant shutdowns or extended hours may be required.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university.
• 3-5 years of engineering experience in a chemical plant, refinery, manufacturing facility, or similar industrial environment (entry-level candidates may be considered).
• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems including pumps, piping, heat exchangers, compressors, and rotating equipment.
• Understanding of engineering drawings such as P&IDs, piping layouts, and mechanical drawings.
• Familiarity with project management principles and engineering design practices.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and contractors.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with capital project execution in a plant environment.
• Knowledge of process safety standards and industrial codes.
• Familiarity with CAD software and engineering documentation systems.
• Working knowledge of OSHA and environmental compliance requirements.
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or progress toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
