O'Brien Interiors Group works as an interior construction and finish-out company specializing in turnkey interiors for residential and commercial spaces across the Midwest region. Our integrated team manages everything in-house from design and procurement to labor and warehousing delivering modern, functional, and durable spaces that add lasting value. As the company continues to grow and take on new projects, we are looking for an experienced Project Director to lead our teams and drive successful project execution. This position requires regular travel to various project sites within the Midwest, and overnight travel is necessary.

The Project Director Position:

We are seeking a seasoned and strategic Project Director to lead our project teams in the successful delivery of, senior living construction projects. In this high-impact role, you will oversee the entire project lifecycle-from estimating through final close-out-serving as the primary leader for multiple concurrent developments. You will be responsible for the financial health of your projects while coaching your team to maintain our high standards for safety, quality, and operational excellence. This position requires regular regional travel to project sites, and overnight travel will be necessary.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Manager Leadership: Lead and develop the Project Manager team, overseeing their training, hiring, and quality of work.
  • Project Leadership & Strategy: Act as the lead for multiple projects, managing all customer communications and taking full accountability for the profit and loss of each venture.
  • Risk Management & Quality Control: Take an active role in mitigating risk through program requirements, mock-ups, and safety checklists. Foresee potential issues and implement proactive solutions to ensure project integrity.
  • Team Management & Coordination: Manage project team members to ensure professional growth and high-quality output. Coordinate the team by holding each member accountable for their specific assignments and deliverables.
  • Technical Guidance: Serve as a technical resource for the team regarding production sequencing, subcontractor crew-loaded schedules, and labor issues.
  • Financial Oversight: Lead Project Managers to reach financial goals, ensuring accurate, timely job cost reporting. Develop strategies to increase productivity, lower costs, and provide feedback data to the estimating department.
  • Warehouse Operations: Oversee warehouse operations to support project and material needs.
  • Safety & Compliance: Approve all site-specific safety and security plans, ensuring 100% compliance with company standards and applicable regulations.
  • Operational Excellence: Drive the development of and adherence to project schedules while continually integrating industry best practices and innovative construction methods.


Qualifications & Abilities:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Construction Management is preferred, or an equivalent combination of professional training and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in the construction industry, specifically within multifamily or commercial sectors.
  • Software Proficiency: Strong computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Procore and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Leadership Traits: Creative, results-oriented, and self-motivated with a strong sense of urgency.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with an adaptable style suited for diverse stakeholders and team members.
  • Problem Solving: Exceptional analytical skills with a keen focus on accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness.


Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
  • Combination of field and office work on a regular basis.
  • Travel to project sites across multiple states as necessary.
