Position Overview
As a Project/Design Engineer, you perform the network, site, and product engineering that keeps a federal LMR system meeting field-level and national requirements. You run RF propagation and coverage analysis, site assessments, channel planning, and system design, and you solve interoperability challenges across a mixed fleet of Motorola, Bendix King, and Icom equipment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct engineering analysis studies and produce RF propagation charts
- Perform site assessments and recommendations
- Review proposed channel plans and produce frequency assignments
- Develop system block diagrams and functional block diagrams
- Identify interoperability issues and solutions across disparate, mixed-vendor systems (Motorola, Bendix King, Icom)
- Perform product configuration analysis and new product/solution development and analysis
- Support install/de-install engineering: site design, mobile-comm configuration, indoor solutions, wireless upgrades, and emergency-response setup
- Act as subject-matter expert and assist in developing statements of work and testing standards as requested
- Support Bill of Materials (BOM) development per site and collaborate with field operations on system testing and acceptance
Requirements
- RF/systems engineering experience with LMR, P25, and conventional/trunked systems
- Proficiency with RF propagation/coverage modeling tools and channel planning
- Experience with system design, block diagrams, and frequency coordination
- Knowledge of interoperability standards and mixed-fleet integration (Motorola, Bendix King, Icom)
- Able to travel for site inspections and data collection
- Able to obtain and maintain a favorable federal background investigation
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, RF engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years RF/LMR system engineering and design experience
- Motorola system certifications and/or iBwave (in-building/DAS) preferred
- FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL) preferred
- Federal or public-safety communications engineering experience preferred
