This is a leadership role well-suited for an individual who thrives at the intersection of technical consulting, client service, and team development.

What You'll Do

As a Project Delivery Manager (PDM), you will provide strategic and operational leadership to a team of consultants and analysts, supporting the execution of projects within our Power Systems Planning department (both TPPSA and GMDP business lines) and adjacent service areas. You will work closely with managing directors and business line leads to ensure project excellence, staff development, and alignment with company goals and values. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Leadership & Team Development
  • Provide leadership to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and review performance to ensure efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
  • Recruit, develop, train, and retain high-performing staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, monthly one-on-ones, and provide clear instruction and guidance to direct reports.
  • Promote the Burns & McDonnell culture, values, and mission, along with 1898 & Co.'s traits: tenacious problem solvers, curious seekers, unselfish collaborators, and grit.
  • Interpret and communicate organizational goals and policies to staff.

Project & Resource Management
  • Provide senior-level technical and delivery oversight for consulting engagements spanning:
  • Transmission planning and power systems analysis
  • Distribution system planning
  • Grid modernization and DER integration
  • Reliability, resilience, and long-range planning studies
  • Support Project Managers by reinforcing best practices in scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, risk management, and client communications.
  • Coordinate team workload, staffing plans, and resource needs across TPPSA and GMDP in collaboration with Business Line Leads and Managing Directors.
  • Ensure appropriate QA/QC processes are consistently applied across projects and disciplines.
  • Monitor project performance, utilization, and financial health; proactively identify and resolve risks that could impact delivery or client satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, quality standards, and project management expectations.

Strategic & Operational Execution
  • Support profitable growth by aligning staffing capacity, delivery performance, and skill development with current and forecasted workload.
  • Collaborate with Managing Directors, Project Managers, and proposal teams to support business development activities and pursuit strategies across transmission planning, distribution planning, and grid modernization services.
  • Provide input on service offerings, delivery models, and process improvements that enhance consistency and scalability across both business lines.
  • Implement and support firm-wide initiatives and change efforts; lead teams through organizational transitions with clear communication and accountability.
  • Achieve stated financial targets, performance standards, and operational objectives.

Client Engagement
  • Serve as a senior delivery leader supporting key client relationships across TPPSA and/or GMDP engagements.
  • Reinforce a client-focused delivery culture that emphasizes technical excellence, responsiveness, and practical solutions.
  • Support Project Managers in resolving complex technical, contractual, or delivery challenges.
  • Represent 1898 & Co. in strategic client discussions, internal leadership forums, and cross-business collaboration efforts.

Preferred Experience & Skills
  • Candidates with deep experience in one of the two business lines (TPPSA or GMDP) will also be considered, particularly those who demonstrate the ability and interest to expand across disciplines.
  • Experience leading consulting teams and project delivery efforts within both Transmission Planning & Power Systems Analysis (TPPSA) and Grid Modernization & Distribution Planning (GMDP) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, balance competing priorities, and adapt delivery approaches across varied power systems planning and grid modernization engagements.
  • Strong client engagement, communication, and leadership skills, with the ability to operate effectively across a diverse client and project portfolio.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Business, or other related field and 5 years of related experience required.
  • Previous leadership and/or management experience is preferable.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Position requires the ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead, and manage change.
  • Must possess strong project management skills and a strategic perspective.
