This Opportunity

WSP is seeking a Project Controls Team Leader to join our growing Earth & Environment (E&E) Texas & Louisiana (TXLA) Regional Team.

As a key member of the Regional Leadership Team, the Project Controls Team Leader will play a critical role in advancing regional strategic objectives and achieving annual business plan goals and performance targets. This position combines operational leadership, people management, and project delivery responsibilities, providing an opportunity to influence both regional performance and project success.

As the Project Controls Team Leader, you will provide strategic, operational, and technical leadership to ensure successful project delivery and financial performance across the Texas and Louisiana region. You will partner closely with Project Managers, technical leaders, and regional leadership to drive project excellence, operational efficiency, and business growth. The Project Controls Team Leader will be responsible for leading and developing a team of project controls professionals who support projects throughout the entire project lifecycle, including:
  • Project Initiation
  • Planning
  • Execution
  • Monitoring and Control
  • Project Closeout

The team supports a diverse portfolio of consulting projects within the Earth & Environment business, including but not limited to:
  • Site characterization and remediation
  • Environmental permitting and planning
  • Civil engineering
  • Geotechnical and ground engineering services

In this hybrid leadership role, the Project Controls Team Leader will drive excellence in project planning, financial performance, scheduling, forecasting, risk management, and project governance while remaining actively engaged in project execution and client service delivery.
Your Impact
  • Lead and manage the Project Controls Team, providing oversight of project financial performance, scheduling, invoicing, and cash collection across the Texas and Louisiana portfolio of clients and projects.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional development for the Project Controls Team.
  • Establish and promote project controls best practices, processes, and performance standards across the region.
  • Partner with project managers, technical leaders, and business leaders to improve project performance and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor project financials, schedules, resource utilization, forecasting, and key performance indicators.
  • Support strategic planning and business initiatives as a member of the Regional Leadership Team.
  • Foster a high-performing culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and client-focused delivery.
  • Ensure consistent implementation of project controls methodologies and compliance with WSP policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to successful project delivery while maintaining strong client relationships and supporting business growth objectives.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee program and project schedules; review, monitor, and evaluate contractor and consultant schedules, identifying cost and schedule risks and recommending solutions to Project Managers.
  • Establish and implement project controls standards, processes, and best practices, including change management, cost and schedule controls, forecasting, reporting, and performance measurement across regional initiatives.
  • Prepare and oversee project cost estimates, budgets, forecasts, cash flow analyses, financial models, and other performance projections; ensure effective project accounting and earned value management practices.
  • Develop and implement analytics tools, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) that provide Project Managers, regional leadership, and clients with actionable insights to support informed decision-making.
  • Prepare and deliver project performance reports, executive summaries, client presentations, and other communications; effectively communicate complex project information to technical, business, and executive audiences.
  • Provide oversight of procurement and vendor management activities, including contractor performance, change order administration, punch list completion, project closeout, and contract compliance; support contract review and negotiation activities as needed.
  • Perform other duties, responsibilities, and assignments as required.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Finance, Environmental Science or similar with a background in environmental, science, or engineering.
  • 7+ years of demonstrated post-education experience of relevant skills including financial controls, finance/accounting, scheduling, forecasting or related functions on capital projects, with demonstrated ability to guide teams and coordinate across disciplines
  • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, supervising, and developing multidisciplinary project controls professionals.
  • Strong knowledge of project management principles

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, manage conflicting priorities, and work well under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to learn processes quickly and prioritize client requirements

  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (pivot tables, dashboards, and financial analysis), Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project; familiarity with Power BI, Adobe Acrobat, and Oracle based project management and financial systems.
  • Ability to uphold and promote workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability and willingness to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
