Job Description

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Project Controls Specialist to support our Central Canada Region, based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) or Waterloo, Ontario. This individual will bring strong technical knowledge in planning, scheduling, cost control, and risk management within a consulting engineering environment.

The Project Controls Specialist will provide cost and schedule analytical support to Project Managers across multiple sector groups within GHD's Ontario Region. Support will vary depending on project requirements and will be delivered both in person and remotely.

Working with an energetic and high-performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
  • Implement all aspects of project controls for a project or portfolio of projects, including scheduling, cost control, change management, and risk management, in accordance with GHD policies, procedures, and industry best practices. A strong understanding of project measurement and earned value principles is essential.
  • Take a hands-on approach to delivering project controls activities, either in full or in part, depending on project complexity and assigned resources.
  • Work closely with Project Managers on key project functions, with a primary focus on managing and supporting project controls activities.
  • Provide recommendations on financial, schedule, and other project-related implications to help ensure project KPIs are met or exceeded.
  • Regularly review budgets and schedules with the Project Manager, Design Manager, and Discipline Leads; identify gaps and provide practical solutions to achieve scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Review and provide recommendations on change notices in alignment with best practice change management processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Finance team, particularly Project Administrators, to ensure project budgets and invoices are accurate, and coordinate with Project Managers to support timely client invoicing.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring on project controls best practices to project team members and other project controls staff, as required

What you will bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent diploma from a recognized college or university, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant technical, administrative, and project experience, including experience in project controls within a design or engineering environment.
  • Experience providing project controls services for design delivery on large, multi-disciplinary engineering projects, specifically for industrial/process plants, facilities, or buildings, from design inception through construction completion.
  • Demonstrated experience performing and/or managing project controls functions, including both scheduling and cost control, with hands-on experience in the following areas:
    • Detailed knowledge of scheduling methods, cost control processes, and risk management procedures.
    • Experience developing and managing project metrics, including earned value, CPI, and SPI.
    • Strong understanding of project controls as applied within a design environment and across different delivery models, including DB, DBB, PDB, and IPD.
    • Experience implementing and coordinating project controls systems, including, but not limited to, Primavera P6 and Acumen Fuse or similar tools.
    • High level of proficiency with cost analysis and planning/scheduling tools, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and Primavera P6, including importing and exporting data from engineering/construction ERP or cost accounting systems.
    • Experience with project dashboard development and reporting using Power BI.
    • Ability to manage ambiguity, changing priorities, and multiple concurrent demands.
    • Strong team building, staff management, and mentoring skills.
    • Forensic scheduling experience is considered an asset.
    • PMP, PMI-SP, or similar project management/project controls qualifications are considered an asset.

The salary range for this position is $108,620 to $152,620. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
