The Opportunity - Build the Future with Us

As a Project Controls Subject Matter Expert (SME) within our Project Delivery Excellence team, you will shape how multidisciplinary major projects across Canada are planned, governed, and delivered.
Based in Ottawa, this national role strengthens our project delivery capability and supports teams leading complex programs that improve communities and advance sustainability.
Your Impact
  • Guide project teams in applying best-in-class project controls methodologies across cost, schedule, risk, change, performance tracking, and reporting.
  • Develop standardized governance tools, templates, dashboards, and workflows that elevate enterprise-level project execution.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, finance leaders, and technical teams to ensure alignment between scope, schedule, cost, and performance metrics.
  • Advise senior leadership through analytics-driven insights on trends, variances, mitigations, risks, and opportunities.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives and advance digital transformation in project delivery systems and processes.
  • Ensure project controls practices meet corporate standards, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Mentor teams across WSP Canada, building national capability in modern project controls.
  • Engage effectively with external stakeholders, including clients, regulators, and partners, ensuring transparency across the project lifecycle.
  • Support major projects through full lifecycle involvement-from setup and rollout to performance assessment and, when needed, recovery initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain standardized project control processes for scheduling, budgeting, cost monitoring, and risk management.
  • Deliver training, workshops, and capability-building programs tailored to WSP teams across the country.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes related to project controls deliverables, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and compliance.
  • Capture and share lessons learned across the organization to strengthen project planning and future delivery excellence.
The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Experience in project controls within consulting, engineering, infrastructure delivery, or major capital programs.
  • Strong proficiency with tools such as Primavera P6, MS Project, Power BI, and enterprise cost control systems (InEight experience is considered an asset).
  • Ability to develop, interpret, and communicate cost models, schedules, dashboards, and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge of best practices in risk management, change control, earned value, and project governance.
  • Proven ability to influence decision-making through data-driven insights within multidisciplinary environments.
  • A degree in engineering, project management, business, or a related field; certifications such as PMP, PMI-SP, or AACE are assets.
  • 10+ years of experience in project controls or project management, including 5+ years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
  • Experience guiding organizational change related to processes, systems, or culture in project delivery environments.
  • Proven mentoring and leadership capability, fostering knowledge sharing and team development.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a significant asset for national roles.
  • Experience establishing or improving project controls frameworks, including earned value management (EVM) and other advanced performance techniques.
Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT:$122,900 - $162,800
MB & ON: $112,100 - $154,400
NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $111,000 - $147,400
