Position DescriptionThe Project Architect provides architectural and technical leadership throughout all phases of a project, from conceptual design through construction administration. Working closely with the Project Managers, design teams, consultants, and clients, the Project Architect translates design intent into coordinated, constructible, and code-compliant project documentation.
This position requires a high degree of responsibility and independent judgment in architectural design, technical problem-solving, multidisciplinary coordination, quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC), and project delivery. Experience with industrial and manufacturing facilities is highly valued, including an understanding of the technical, operational, and constructability considerations associated with these environments.
Essential Functions- Leads the architectural and technical development of assigned projects from design through construction administration.
- Works collaboratively with the Project Manager to establish and maintain project scope, priorities, schedules, deliverables, staffing needs, and technical approach.
- Leads the development, coordination, and quality of architectural drawings, specifications, details, and other project documentation in accordance with firm standards and project requirements.
- Coordinates architectural work with structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and other consultants and disciplines.
- Researches, interprets, and applies applicable building codes, zoning requirements, accessibility standards, and other regulatory requirements.
- Reviews project documents for accuracy, completeness, constructability, coordination, code compliance, and consistency with design intent.
- Provides technical direction and guidance to project team members and supports the development of less-experienced architectural staff.
- Enters projects at various stages of design and effectively advances the work while maintaining established design intent and project objectives.
- Identifies project challenges and develops timely, practical, and cost-effective solutions.
- Monitors architectural work against established scope, schedule, budget, and deliverables and communicates potential impacts or changes to the Project Manager.
- Provides construction administration, including review of submittals and shop drawings, responses to RFIs, field observations, and evaluation of project changes.
- Participates in client, consultant, contractor, and project team meetings and communicates architectural and technical information clearly and professionally.
- Maintains positive relationships with clients and project partners and responds to questions and concerns in a timely and thorough manner.
Position Requirements- Professional architectural licensure required.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture or related field.
- 10+ years of progressively responsible architectural design and project delivery experience.
- Experience performing or leading QA/QC reviews of architectural drawings and construction documents.
- Knowledge with pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) systems and their integration into architectural design and construction is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to lead architectural and technical project delivery from design through construction.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, accessibility requirements, construction methods, materials, detailing, and architectural systems.
- Demonstrated experience developing construction documents, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and consultants, and providing construction administration.
- Proficiency in Revit required, working knowledge of AutoCAD and other applicable architectural software.
- Ability to manage multiple projects or assignments while meeting established schedules and budgets.
- Strong organizational, technical problem-solving, decision-making, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively and provide technical guidance to other members of the architectural team.
