Full Job Description
Job Title: Programmer/Analyst

Assignment: Full-Time

Location: Winnetka Campus

Salary: $88,000- $105,000

Supervisor: Enterprise Applications Manager; Chief Technology Officer

General Responsibilities:

The Programmer/Analyst is the lead developer and applications analyst, and leads in the operation, support and development of our enterprise applications services, including the student information system and custom applications.

The current environment includes applications developed in .NET, Angular JS with backend in SQL and Oracle. The position will involve developing new APIs and applications in these areas and supporting processes and workflows related to finance/human resources systems, student information, and other areas.

The Programmer/Analyst is responsible for overall maintenance of these systems, including administration, development, documentation, and security. The Programmer/Analyst will also work collaboratively with other Enterprise Systems team members to develop new systems or modify current systems to add or improve functionality.

Develop and implement a plan for ongoing assessment of system performance and the identification of problem areas. Apply adopted security schemes to applications, as well as assisting in disaster recovery if necessary. This position includes access to confidential employee, financial and student data, and requires discretion and confidentiality.

Qualifications:

  1. Degree in computer science, information technology or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Minimum of three years' experience in application development, preferably in business process / workflow systems and experience with .NET development.
  3. Experience in developing and maintaining applications using C#.NET with Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  4. Proficiency in writing SQL queries, stored procedures, reporting and query tools.
  5. Knowledge of statistical software and data visualization tools such as Tableau, and/or Power BI.
  6. Experience with cloud data warehouse platforms like Snowflake is preferred.
  7. Strong understanding of standard relational database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  8. Experience in developing documentation and procedures.
  9. Ability to quickly understand complex systems from a technical, organizational and logical perspective; how they interact with the operation of the school district; and the impact and connection these systems have to different types of users (faculty, administration, support staff) and to departments in the school (Administrative Services, Business Office, Attendance Office, Registrar, etc.).
  10. Ability to complete multiple, complex projects; multi-task; meet frequent deadlines.
  11. Ability to work both independently and in teams, demonstrate exemplary interpersonal skills, communicate clearly with staff, students, parents, and the public and be customer-service oriented.

Position Expectations:

  1. Technical
    1. Provides advanced technical expertise in application development in .NET environment.
    2. Design, develop and implement applications while maintaining enhancements and developing new functionality to optimize existing intranet and internet solutions.
    3. Possesses in-depth knowledge on the functionality of databases of numerous data-driven technical systems, including the business process/workflow, course management, document archiving, content, student, and financial management software; including how these systems interface and move data between each other.
    4. Maintain a working knowledge of vendor supplied software/utilities pertinent to position functions.
    5. Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and diagnose technical problems in a timely and effective manner.
  2. Application Design
    1. Designs and documents application architecture in accordance with design and functional requirements. Designs, maintains, and develops applications within our Student Information System (PowerSchool), our Special Programs System (PSSP) in accordance with defined specifications, creates system documentation, and resolves problems when they occur on existing systems.
    2. Defines database schemas, tables, procedures and security as it relates to a specific application.
    3. Works to develop and apply security standards to data across the enterprise.
  3. On-going Operation
    1. Monitors and maintains application security and performs security auditing on critical systems, especially as it relates to the school's HR and financial management systems.
    2. Coordinates with the other members of the technology team on upgrades, maintenance, support, and backups.
    3. Provides constant support for critical situations; monitor systems proactively for availability, while working to minimize downtime.
    4. Proven troubleshooting skills, including analyzing issues, identifying root causes, and implementing effective solutions.
  4. Provide world-class customer service.
    1. Demonstrate any new or enhanced system to users.
    2. Work with users and technical teams in a professional manner.
    3. Consult with management to get approval for new applications.
    4. Contribute to project management requirements.
    5. Participate in status meetings.
  5. Support and Collaboration
    1. Provides advanced technical expertise to the development team in support of their role maintaining the district's websites and custom applications.
    2. Assist or train other team members in resolving application problems.
    3. Exhibits a positive attitude and projects a positive image of the district to staff and others.
    4. Continues job performance enhancement by participating in appropriate professional growth activities
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
