Program Manager - Substation and Power Generation Design
Position Summary
The Program Manager - Substation and Power Generation Design will lead the
development, governance, and deployment of standardized processes and design
frameworks for data center power infrastructure, including substations, switchyards, and
on-site power generation (OSP) systems. This role will organize governance principles,
stage-gate processes, design standards, and risk management frameworks.
The Program Manager will partner closely with engineering subject matter experts (SMEs),
power development teams, utility stakeholders, and deployment organizations to create
scalable, repeatable standards that support future data center growth and power
generation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Standards Development
• Develop and maintain governance principles for data center power development
programs.
• Define standardized frameworks for:
o Substation development and deployment.
o On-site power generation (OSP) development and deployment.
o Utility interconnection and power delivery processes.
o Substation and OSP ownership, interface, and scope boundaries.
• Establish consistent stage-gate processes, approval milestones, and decisionmaking
criteria across power infrastructure projects.
• Translate lessons learned and industry best practices into documented standards
and deployment requirements.
• Manage and enhance power infrastructure standards repositories and design
libraries within VDC's document control ecosystem
Program Development & Execution
• Create and manage program roadmaps, milestones, critical path activities, and
deliverables.
• Identify program risks, decision points, escalation triggers, and mitigation strategies
throughout the power infrastructure lifecycle.
• Track readiness for permitting, mobilization, design, procurement, construction,
and deployment activities.
• Support key program deliverables, including utility-facing permitting and
deployment readiness milestones.
• Facilitate executive-level reporting on program status, risks, resource needs, and
strategic recommendations.
Subject Matter Expert (SME) Coordination
• Partner with engineering leaders and SMEs to capture technical requirements and
operational lessons learned.
• Facilitate alignment between engineering, development, deployment, and
operations needs
• Interface with third-party program management resources, consultants, and
engineering partners.
This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Estimated compensation for this position:
145,000.00 - 145,000.00 USD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
