Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Program Director for the Behavioral Research & Training Institute (BRTI) within Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.

The primary purpose of the Program Director is to provide administrative direction and oversight to assigned programs with multiple projects, assure program integrity and fiscal viability. Responsible for ongoing program development and compliance with regulatory requirements.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Directs the administrative and clinical organization of the programs.
  • Establishes clear, measurable objectives for services.
  • Ensures that programs meet or exceed objectives.
  • Plans, trains and supervises the work of others engaged in program supervision and/or the provision of training and consultation services.
  • Collaborates effectively with internal and external service providers, staff members, referral sources and program funders.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends and development in the mental health field; regularly attends and participates in in- service meetings and other designated training events that will enhance clinical skills and maintain best practices.
  • Effectively contributes to and supports an environment that respects and enhances the individual, their expressed choices, and preferences, and that enhances the positive self-image of all individuals receiving services in his/her oversight.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Master's Degree in a behavioral health discipline and seven (7) years of postgraduate experience in a relevant behavioral healthcare setting, two (2) years of which shall have involved supervisory experience.
  • An appropriate doctorate may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.


Certifications/Licenses
  • Applicants possessing a degree in Social Work must have an active New Jersey certification/licensure as required by the State Board of Social Work.
  • Must possess a license to practice independently as a treatment provider in the State of New Jersey (LCSW, LPC, Psychology License, etc.).
  • Valid driver's license.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated proficiency in principles and techniques of training, consultation and program evaluation required.
  • A history of progressive, successful administrative responsibility is required.
  • Outstanding human relations and leadership skills, and the ability to function in a team environment required.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to accomplish superior performance in a unionized environment is preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Extensive reading required, lifting of up to 10 pounds and extended periods of sitting. Ability to walk throughout the day, stand for extended periods of time, and focus on assigned tasks in a hectic noisy environment. Frequent time spent driving to various locations throughout New Jersey for meetings, trainings, etc

WORK ENVIRONMENT: : Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). Subject to unpredictable situations, patient crises, both medical and psychiatric. Occasionally exposed to patients exhibiting assaultive behaviors. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens which require use of personal protective equipment. May be exposed to varying or extreme temperatures.
