ROLE: PROFESSIONAL ENGINEER (STRUCTURAL) - LICENSED ENGINEERING

The Professional Engineer (PE) specializing in structural engineering for solar projects plays a crucial role in ensuring that the solar installations are structurally sound and meet local, state, and national building codes. The PE's stamp on a project provides a legal assurance that the design is safe and compliant.

What you can expect as Professional Engineer (Structural) Licensed Engineering at Illumine-i:

1. Structural Design Review
  • You'll review and approve structural design calculations for solar panel installations (ground-mounted, rooftop, and other solar energy systems).
  • Proven experience in doing structural analysis and providing calculation packages for building structures and solar mounting systems such as residential roofs, commercial roofs, ground mounts, solar canopies, and other miscellaneous structures.
  • You'll ensure that structural plans comply with relevant codes, including International Building Code (IBC), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) standards, and local zoning regulations.

2. Structural Analysis and Load Calculations
  • You'll perform detailed structural analysis to assess wind loads, snow loads, seismic forces, and dead/live loads on the supporting structures of the solar panels.
  • You'll ensure that the mounting structures can support the weight and environmental stresses.

3. Code Compliance and Certification
  • You'll verify that all solar installations adhere to national, state, and local building codes, standards, and permit requirements.
  • You'll ensure that the solar array's structural design meets specific structural engineering standards such as ASCE 7-16 (Minimum Design Loads) and applicable building regulations.

4. Project Documentation and Stamping
  • You'll review and stamp (sign and seal) final structural drawings, calculations, and construction documents for submission to regulatory authorities.
  • You'll provide legally binding approval that the design meets safety standards.

5. Collaboration with Project Teams
  • You'll collaborate with other engineering teams (electrical, mechanical) and solar designers to ensure an integrated design approach.
  • You'll work closely with contractors, developers, and architects during the design and construction phases to address any structural concerns.

6. Risk Assessment and Safety
  • You'll identify potential structural risks in the project and provide recommendations to mitigate those risks.
  • You'll ensure that the design is safe and minimizes potential hazards related to the structural elements of the solar system.

7. Permit Support
  • You'll assist in obtaining necessary permits and approvals from local authorities by ensuring the submitted designs meet all structural and zoning requirements.
  • You'll provide technical responses to any queries raised by permitting agencies.

8. Record Maintenance
  • You'll maintain accurate records of stamped designs, calculations, and project approvals.
  • You'll ensure documentation is properly archived for future reference and audits by authorities.


Essential Qualifications include:
  • Active Professional Engineering California license (Holding Illinois license is an added advantage).
  • 4-9 years of experience in engineering, with a focus on structural design. with experience in providing structural calcs, reviews and stamps for solar PV permits.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes such as IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, NDS, and AISI.
