Title: Professional Education Manager
Reports to: Director of Professional Education
Work Location: 1 day per week in the Arlington, VA office, Hybrid - 4 days per week telework; (additional days in office may be required for event preparation, planning meetings, etc.)
Scope of Responsibilities:The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) is seeking a strategic and collaborative Professional Education Manager to lead the design, development, and delivery of high-quality professional education programs that advance the organization's mission and strategic priorities. This role is responsible for independently managing new initiatives and ensuring continuity of work through proactive planning and resource management. Working in close partnership with the Director of Professional Education, the Manager translates strategic goals into actionable plans, aligns team efforts with departmental and organizational objectives, and provides insight and recommendations to support informed decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to shape program innovation, strengthen operational excellence, and enhance member value through strong leadership and cross-functional collaboration.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:- Stakeholder/Volunteer Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as volunteer planning committees and corporate partners, to develop educational content and identify opportunities for collaboration, sponsorships, customized training programs, and other non-dues revenue streams.
- Program Development: Create and execute professional education programs, such as seminars, workshops, virtual events, and webinars, ensuring they align with the organization's objectives, budget parameters, and target audience needs.
- Curriculum Design: Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop engaging and relevant professional education products, incorporating adult learning principles and ensuring the curriculum meets the highest quality standards.
- Speaker Management: Recruit, train, and manage qualified subject matter experts, providing ongoing support, feedback, and professional development opportunities to speakers.
- Program Delivery: Oversee the effective delivery of professional education programs, both in-person and through online platforms, working closely with the Meeting Services Department to ensure adequate logistical support is achieved.
- Evaluation and Improvement: Analyze data to recommend and implement process improvements in partnership with Professional Education colleagues.
- Marketing and Promotion: Collaborate with the Marketing and Publications Departments to develop effective marketing campaigns and promotional materials for professional education programs and products.
- Strategic Plan and Operational Support: Contribute to the implementation of the CAS Strategic Plan by supporting departmental initiatives, identifying process improvements, and helping ensure that professional education programs align with organizational goals under the guidance of the supervisor.
- Leadership and Operational Accountability: In addition to managing day-to-day operations, managers are responsible for independently leading new initiatives aligned with departmental priorities, proactively planning for and managing their own and their direct reports' absences to ensure continuity of work, and actively supporting broader organizational goals. Managers are expected to partner closely with and support the Director of Professional Education by advancing strategic objectives, ensuring alignment of team efforts with departmental priorities, and providing timely communication, issue escalation, and operational insight to support effective decision-making.
Required Experiences and Qualifications:- Fully accredited four-year undergraduate degree.
- A minimum of 5 years work experience in an association/non-profit organization working and with volunteers.
- Proven experience in designing and managing professional education programs, preferably with a concentration in online education.
- Experience with adult education, learning theory application, and instructional design principles.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate volunteers and colleagues.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to interface with senior-level business professionals.
- Deep knowledge in leveraging technology for educational purposes, particularly learning management systems (LMS), speaker/abstract management systems, association management systems, e-Commerce platforms, and virtual classrooms.
- Preferred: Proficiency with educational technology, including learning management systems (LMS), speaker/abstract management tools (Cadmium, Cvent), and association management systems (AMS). Knowledge of Cobalt is a plus.
- Strong project planning, analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail, timelines and deliverables.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Travel required within North America is approximately 10% of the year (time off for weekend work provided in most cases).
