Summary

The Production Supervisor directs the activities of hourly operators across all Production plants to include, but not limited to Acid plants, ammonia handling area, warehouses, etc. This individual ensures quality manufacturing practices, production efficiency, product quality, and consistency; supervises Materials Management employees during off-hours. The Production Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all operators are in compliance with company policies, procedures, and Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security (EHS&S) regulations at all times. This individual must have sufficient knowledge of plant operations in order to operate any plant as required in an emergency situation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs, coaches, and mentors hourly plant operators to ensure that production goals and objectives are achieved. Responsible for employee development, performance reviews, and initiates corrective action as required.
  • Ensures that staff are trained in complex, specific plant activities and are following standard operating procedures; facilitates/co-facilitates safety trainings as needed. Oversees on the job training, and organizes cross training for all operators, including new hires.
  • Schedules production, labor, and maintenance resources to ensure efficient operation of the production processes; delegates tasks accordingly.
  • Answers questions and provides guidance related to processes and procedures including, but not limited to troubleshooting, responding to work-related equipment and/or coworker issues as needed.
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to improve quality control processes; analyzes, gathers dat samples to ensure quality products and reduce operating costs. Participates as an active member Chemical Emergency Response Team.
  • Responsible for plant security on weekends and off-shifts; responds appropriately and calmly to any emergency or injury situation; responsible for deciding when and taking steps to shut down plants as necessary according to standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinates and manages bagged products and bulk liquids inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipates needed products; coordinates with purchasing team to order products; verifies receipt.
  • Responsible for completing injury and incident reports, work orders, and end of shift reports. Follows up with projects and work orders. Reports any environmental or safety concerns within time requirements to the appropriate officials.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by complying with all rules and regulations, and continuously practices safety while performing duties; ensures that all coworkers and anyone entering the plant are maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Wears the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to steel-toed boots, safety glasses, hard hat, ear protection, and gloves when entering specified plant areas at all times. Additional PPE may be required based on specific job duties.


Typical Education

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Manufacturing, or Business Administration; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Relevant Experience

Must have a minimum of five (5) years related experience and/or training with previous supervisory experience.

Physical Requirements

  • This job requires the ability to work in excess of eight hours per day, off-duty hours, and weekends to reach operational goals and compliance requirements.
  • Must have the ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Job duties may require the ability to climb stairs, climb ladders, bend, stoop, reach, lift, grip, push, pull, move and/or carry equipment which may be in excess of 25 pounds.
  • In order to perform the duties of this job, the incumbent may be required to walk in excess of 500 yards to reach equipment/areas across the facility.
  • Working in this plant operations environment requires the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed boots, hard hat, face shield, respiratory protective equipment, and uniforms.
  • This individual may be subject to variations in noise levels and temperature changes due to weather conditions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, this individual is frequently exposed to moving mechanical pa fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Loose fitting clothing, open toe/heel shoes and the wearing of contact lenses are not permitted.


Other Information

  • Ability to identify and understand chemical processes, and intermediate math skills; ability to communicate technical information, concepts, and ideas verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the tools and operating equipment used in a plant; mechanical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to include, but not limited to Excel, Word, etc. Prior experience using Delta V software preferred.
  • Must have the ability to identify and resolve problems expeditiously; Strong analytical and interpretation skills; Demonstrates good judgment and develops alternative solutions.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills; Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
  • Must be a team player and demonstrate a strong work ethic. Must have the ability to approach others in a tactful manner, react well under pressure, and be accurate and thorough.
  • Outstanding communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization including but not limited to internal and external partners and/or other personnel.
  • Travel may be required; valid drivers license.
  • Required to maintain reliable, regular attendance.
