Job Description:

This position reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for the safety, quality, delivery and all costs associated with the production function. This includes enforcing all safety, housekeeping, and quality policies. Responsibilities also include working with the Plant Manager to ensure the team meets production goals, collaborating with customer service online schedules, managing job assignments for operators, establishing, updating, enforcing, and training of standard work, conducting root cause/countermeasure analysis of problems, actively participating on the continuous improvement team. The position is responsible for multiple shifts and directly supervises the day shift. The shift leaders report to the Production Manager.

Essential Functions:
  • Prioritize and oversee scheduling of production requirements by balancing quality, productivity, cost, and morale to achieve positive results.
  • Manage the workload and activities of team leaders and employees to ensure quality parts are delivered on time at the lowest possible cost, ensuring safety at every step.
  • Collect production & inventory data and reports on inventory & Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Assist in the development of procedures and documentation to support the manufacturing operations.
  • Identify, prioritize, and assist in the implementation of improvement projects or system enhancements, which result in safety improvements, efficiency improvements, quality improvements, and/or cost savings.
  • Provide other departments with the necessary production or quality information needed to carry out their assigned responsibilities.
  • Ensure that the duties, responsibilities and authority of each job function is clearly defined and communicated to the appropriate personnel; conducts performance reviews
  • Analyze appropriate staffing levels and recommend the hiring or releasing of personnel in accordance with staffing requirements and Company policy.
  • Identify training and development needs of staff and initiate appropriate programs.
  • Maintain adherence to Company policies, safety standards and good housekeeping practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Position Skills and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply Chain or Business plus 3 - 5 years of prior production supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting or equivalent experience
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and electro-mechanical equipment, processes, and systems. Basic understanding of computers and the Microsoft Office Suite tools.
  • Experience in metal-based production processes preferred
  • Substantial background in production management, shift organization, line staffing, production control, safety, production reporting and employee management necessary
  • Demonstrated change management around building cultures of safety and of continuous improvement mindset in production
  • Good background in the area of team building, along with the ability to develop, implement and maintain a fully functional team environment. The position requires significant interaction with both exempt and non-exempt team members.
  • Sound administrative and managerial skills, along with excellent communication, conflict resolution, supervision and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of computerized databases, spreadsheet software to manage production and inventory control
