Position Overview:Manages one or more manufacturing processes within the Medical Isotope Division of BWXT Kanata site. Accountable for the effective forecasting, planning, resourcing, scheduling and execution of processes to ensure the production of quality products that meet internal specifications as well as regulatory, contractual and customer requirements.
Location: On-site in Kanata, Ontario
Your Day to Day as a Production Manager:- Directs the safe efficient, effective and economic operation of one or more production cost centers to meet and where possible exceed the divisional goals regarding customer service.
- Interfaces with suppliers of goods and services to ensure that goods are received by customers on a timely basis.
- Liaises with other departmental managers or supervisors to ensure successful coordination of scheduled activities.
- Assists and may substitute for Director, Manufacturing Operations in the performance of his/her managerial activities.
- Interfaces with Customers and provides technical assessments/advise in support of customer inquiries.
- Initiates and implement quality improvements, and cost control/reduction programs aimed at reduced waste and improved profitability.
- Initiates and implements programs aimed at improved efficiencies and product modifications to meet market requirements.
- Initiates, supports and implements continuous improvement initiatives that enhance process reliability and improve responsiveness to customer requirements
- Develops and direct a supporting organization. Responsible for the implementation of the training program.
- Ensures that all activities within a cost centre comply with divisional objectives, regulatory, health and safety and requirements.
- Ensures that all activities within a cost centre comply with quality systems, and regulatory requirements in terms of meeting customer expectations.
- Prepares short and long term budget objectives and reports on progress towards meeting approved objectives. Initiates corrective actions to minimize the negative effects of variances and maximize achievable profits.
- Participates as a member of the Medical Isotope management team to achieve approved business objectives.
- Ensures the maintenance of facilities and equipment to maintain safe and cost effective operating conditions.
- Performs as a technical resource within the scope of the emergency response plan.
- May perform as an alternate emergency response Manager, in place of the Director, Medical Isotopes.
Required Qualifications: - Normally a University graduate in an appropriate discipline (i.e. Life Sciences) with 5+ years of related experience including experience in supervising manufacturing and/or laboratory personnel.
- Must possess proven leadership ability. Ideally, the incumbent will have had previous experience in manufacturing pharmaceuticals, devices, or health care products.
- Must have strong knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
- Must have strong personal qualities of leadership and initiative and set appropriate standards of performance to ensure that staff is motivated to meet objectives.
- Must have general knowledge of chemistry and a good working knowledge of radiation physics. Must have thorough knowledge of relevant production processes.
- Must have intimate working knowledge of both radiation and contamination problems and the proper and effective techniques for dealing with them.
- Must have a good basic understanding of financial planning. Must be able to cope with significant job stress and pressure.
- Must be able to analyze situations and make decisions often with minimal information and little time for optimization or corrective action.
- Must be resourceful, creative, and possess superior problem solving skills. Must have good general knowledge of collective agreements and company policies and procedures, particularly as they affect production operations and staff.
- Proven record of making difficult, independent and sound decisions under pressure
- Ability to work independently

The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON) at the start of employment is expected to be between $$108,000 and $$158,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
