Job Description

Position Title:

Manager, Production

Position Purpose:
  • Responsible for planning, directing and coordinating the 24-hour, 7-day production activities to insure that production requirements are made timely, efficiently, and within budget.


Position Relationships:
  • Reports to Plant Manager
  • Interacts with Maintenance, Human Resources, Buyer/Planner, Quality Control, Warehouse, Tool Room, Customer Service and Sales.
  • Interacts with equipment vendors and parts suppliers.


Essential Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Production Operations:
  • Responsible for overseeing the manufacturing processes for all production departments within the facility.
  • Identifies both current and future equipment and production requirements;
  • Ensures that production goals are met by determining work priorities and scheduling;
  • Oversees all cost control/justification for department;
  • Develops and implements modifications and improvements, recommending specifications and scheduling for new projects and process improvements;
  • Maintains department expenditures within budget;
  • Uses effective tools and communicates department performance; works with supervisors to improve performance;
  • Supports product development and improvement by coordinating activities with Shift Supervisors;

Personnel:

Leads production department staff by:
  • Providing definition of job duties to staff
  • Proving training opportunities to staff
  • Conducting periodic performance reviews
  • Administer coaching/counseling as required
  • Develop and mentor Shift Supervisors to ensure that they have the tools needed to perform their roles;
  • Defining criteria for advancement
  • Promoting cooperation with other departments
  • Enforce personnel policies and procedures; complete and submit all associated paperwork in a timely manner;
  • Assists in the selection of staff;
  • Maintain safe working conditions with a goal of 1 or less recordable accidents and zero lost time accidents;
  • Control employee overtime hours.


Manufacturing Support:
  • Assist other departments with special projects as assigned.
  • Actively participate in production management team meetings as requested.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System (ISO)


PPE Required - Requirements are proper hearing protection, safety glasses (prescription if required), steel-toed shoes, hairnet, beardnet (if employee has chin hair greater than 1/8 inch).

Authorities:
  • Authority to shut down production or stop any machine for any reason deemed necessary
  • Perform essential functions and assigned duties while communicating any deviations from the requirements to management
  • Report any safety concerns to management and to shut down any equipment that presents a safety hazard

Education:

BS Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.

Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and leadership to peers and subordinates
  • Production planning knowledge;
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment
  • Possess excellent problem solving skills;
  • Ability to resolve employee conflicts, problems, and complaints
  • Effective communication skills;
  • Ability to function independently and multi-task;
  • Flexibility to work some overtime, as necessary
  • Preparation of cost estimates, budgets, correspondence and status reports
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and JDE.


Experience:

5-7 years of progressive experience as a Production Supervisor in a high volume-manufacturing environment.
