Summary

Reporting to the Plant Manager, directs, plans and administers the activities of the Injection molding and support operations by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Jobs and Responsibilities
  • Defines and recommends objectives in each area of manufacturing. Develops specific short term and long term plans.
  • Directs activities of assigned plant personnel and continuously drives improvement on the production floor. Provides supervision, motivation and work direction to Shift Supervisors and other personnel.
  • Prepares operational schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products in accordance to Berry quality, and budget specifications.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems relevant to labor, material or equipment to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Reviews production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations. Reviews production schedule to ensure equipment capabilities and maximum production efficiencies.
  • Coordinates new product trails and the introduction of new materials into the production process to ensure quality and compatibility to process. Approves new product setup prior to input into JDE.
  • Monitors blend recipes and resin pricing. Initiates resin substitutions based on resin availability and costs.
  • Reviews and utilizes existing plant accounting reporting to ensure cost control on production floor. Makes capital recommendations for budgeting purposes. Works with engineering, tool shop and maintenance for the purchase of tooling an auxiliary equipment.
  • Monitors the operations and makes cost effective changes to existing methods to improve safety, quality and production expenses. Reports progress.
  • Collaborates with Manufacturing Engineering, New Product Development, Tool Shop and Quality in sampling new molds and getting molds and machines on standard cycle producing acceptable quality parts.
  • Organizes and leads employee driven teams to address scrap, quality, safety or other Continuous Improvement production related issues.
  • Oversees the safety of all Injection and production support employees holding Supervisors accountable for checking the production floor and Injection building for safety/housekeeping hazards throughout the shift and addressing issues immediately. Performs duties in a safe manner; acts as a role model for Safety for Plant personnel. Directly manages and leads the Supervisors to accomplish above goals.
  • Participates in development of plant policies and administers and enforces all rules and policies.
  • Reviews annual performance assessments, identifies training needs to develop Staff. Provide ongoing coaching/counseling to Supervisors for employee performance.
  • Makes recommendations on hiring and termination, reviews and makes recommendations on hourly employee performance issues to ensure fairness and consistency.
  • Conducts daily reviews with staff to optimize production.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Contribution to Safety, Quality and GMP
  • Accountable for personal adherence to all Safety, GMP, Food Safety and Plant policies. Sets the example at all times.
  • Ensures that all comply with OSHA Safety and Health rules; maintains a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Supports the accomplishment of teams through the quality, timeliness and professionalism of Maintains a work environment that will contribute to the assurance of safety and GMP compliance.
  • Notifies management in a timely manner of any deviation from procedural compliance.
  • Make recommendations to management for improving the quality and efficiency of the training program.

This position will have constant interaction with production, maintenance, and outside vendors. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels in the organization (written and verbal).
  • Must be detailed-oriented and able to complete multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Understanding of engineering principles, lean manufacturing and automation.
  • Good leadership skills and ability to motivate.
  • Previous management experience required.

Education and Experience
  • Knowledge normally acquired through completion of a 2-year technical degree in manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering or other related technical field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 4-year degree in Business Management or Engineering (mechanical) and Six Sigma Certification is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years progressively responsible management experience in a manufacturing environment required. 3 years injection experience and ISO 9000 experience preferred.
  • Ability to speak, read and write English.

Work Environment

Food Safety and GMP manufacturing environment. Regularly required to stand, sit, walk, talk and hear throughout a 12-hour day. Occasionally required to lift and carry materials, stoop, kneel crouch or crawl.

Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level on the production floor is usually loud.
