Job Overview:
- Develops best practices to improve production capacity, quality and reliability
- Manage the implementation of continuous improvement processes for efficiency to create a Lean Manufacturing environment.
- Investigates problems, analyzes root causes and derives resolutions. Will use 8D Problem Solving Process to ensure sustainable quality products.
- Develops operational strategies to achieve production and financial objectives
- Assures product and process quality by designing complex testing methods; testing finished- product and process capabilities; establishing standards; confirming manufacturing processes
- Participates in budget preparation and monitor expenses and profitability
- Writes spec books; requests and evaluation of supplier quotations
- Designs, documents, and implements medium to large-scale manufacturing processes. Determines feasibility of product changes
- Utilize system analysis of production methods/procedures and process automations for continued growth improvements.
- Performs a variety of complicated tasks relying on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Evaluates current production activities and drives improvements
- Periodically ensures that highly technical equipment meets required specifications and high quality standards
- Implements cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high quality standards
- Contributes to product and process quality design testing methods
- Develops planning standards, methods, and procedures
- Plans workplaces considering ergonomics
- Stays current with product specifications, engineering technology and production processes
- Provides guidance to team members to accomplish production goals; Mentors and provides guidance to less senior manufacturing engineers for skill/knowledge base development. Motivate, develop, direct and influence team members at all levels and cultural backgrounds of the organization.
- May act as deputy for Production Manager
- Proposes and manages medium-scale projects from beginning to end. May scope and manage large capital investment projects (>$5M)
- Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings
- Will perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, Electronics, Electrical Engineering or related field
Over 5 years of relevant experience required, strongly preferring automotive, such as Body in White, Paint, and Assembly, including experience such as:
- Hands-on Programming experience in booth or work cell
- PLC experience such as; OMRON, AllenBradley, Siemens
- Hands-on experience in off-line simulations
- 3D-CAD experience such as; Inventor, SolidWorks, Catia, Siemens NX, ect.
- Hands-on experience pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and computer controlled systems
- Hands-on experience with process devices such as; motor drives, sensors, AC/DC converters, encoders, lifts, conveyors, etc
Mercedes-Benz Vans, LLC ("MBV Charleston") is a Ladson, South Carolina-based production entity that manufactures Sprinter vans for the U.S. and Canadian markets
The Sprinter plant officially opened in 2018 and serves as a key part of the Mercedes-Benz Vans global production network. MBV Charleston was selected as the first plant in this network to produce the all-new eSprinter, beginning in 2024.
