Job OverviewAs an Intermediate Product Verification Specialist on the IP Solutions team, you will help ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of Ross Video's next-generation FPGA-based broadcast video processing technology. This technology is used by internal Ross product teams to build the solutions Ross delivers to its global customers, so your work directly impacts product quality across the portfolio.
You will plan, execute, and automate tests, reproduce issues reported by downstream product teams, and work side-by-side with FPGA and software developers to isolate, debug, and resolve defects. You will also help build and maintain the regression test suite that safeguards every release.
This hands-on role blends lab work with test automation and offers broad exposure to FPGA technology, hardware and software integration, and broadcast video systems while collaborating across hardware, software, and verification teams.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesProduct Verification & Quality Assurance- Plan, set up, and execute functional, performance, and stress tests on the product and its supporting firmware, drivers, and software.
- Verify product behavior across hardware, firmware, and driver revisions, validating data integrity, throughput, latency, and stability.
- Validate broadcast video, audio, and ancillary data processing for correctness, compliance, and interoperability.
- Build, configure, and maintain lab test environments, including host systems, cabling, and supporting equipment.
- Document test cases, execution results, and coverage; log, track, and verify defect fixes through JIRA.
- Participate in product design reviews, providing feedback on testability, reliability, and usability.
Issue Reproduction & Developer Support- Reproduce issues reported by downstream (internal customer) product teams in a controlled lab environment.
- Isolate root causes through systematic troubleshooting and collaborate with FPGA and software developers to debug and resolve defects.
- Capture and analyze diagnostic data such as logs, packet or bus captures, register dumps, and waveforms to accelerate debugging.
- Act as a bridge between downstream product teams and the development team, clearly communicating reproduction steps, impact, and status.
Test Automation & Regression- Help design, develop, and maintain the regression test suite and automation frameworks.
- Develop and improve automated test scripts using Python and related technologies.
- Integrate and maintain tests within CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous, repeatable regression testing.
- Analyze automated test results, triage failures, and continually improve test coverage and reliability.
Collaboration & Communication- Work closely with Product Owners, Technical Product Managers, and FPGA/software developers to understand new functionality and align verification activities with release goals.
- Provide regular progress updates and participate in test and project review meetings.
- Assist in lab resource planning and coordination to maintain an efficient, shared test environment.
Continuous Improvement- Improve product verification processes, tooling, and documentation to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Participate in retrospectives and post-mortem reviews to capture lessons learned and identify areas for improvement.
- Explore new test tools, automation frameworks, and performance metrics.
- Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- 2 to 4 years of experience in product verification, quality assurance, software/hardware testing, or a related technical role.
- Proficiency with scripting and test automation in Python. Exposure to Tcl, Bash, or Perl is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of test methodologies, defect tracking, and regression testing.
- Hands-on experience testing hardware/software integrated systems in a lab environment.
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to isolate issues across hardware, firmware, and software boundaries.
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git or SVN.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Experience- Familiarity with PCIe and other high-speed digital interfaces.
- Exposure to FPGA concepts, toolchains (Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus, ModelSim/QuestaSim), and/or Verilog/RTL.
- Experience with automation frameworks such as pytest, Robot Framework, or similar tools.
- Familiarity with CI/CD systems such as Jenkins or GitLab CI.
- Experience working in Linux environments.
- Working knowledge of broadcast video and audio standards and interfaces, including SDI, HDMI, DisplayPort, ST 2110, NDI, and IP video.
- Experience with lab and diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, protocol/bus analyzers, and JTAG tools.
- Exposure to containerization technologies such as Docker or virtualization platforms.
- Programming experience with C or C++.
- Interest in automation, continuous improvement, and advanced testing methodologies.
Other Requirements- This position is based in Ottawa, Canada, and requires regular in-lab work.
- Must be comfortable working with lab hardware, including installing and cabling equipment, racking systems, and configuring host machines.
- Occasional off-hours work may be required during release validation cycles.
- Limited travel may be required, along with occasional remote collaboration with global teams.
