Job DescriptionThe Product Sustainability role leads strategic, customer-facing sustainability initiatives that translate environmental goals into measurable, data-driven outcomes. This role serves as the primary partner to customers on sustainability topics, helping them understand their impacts, quantify the value of sustainable solutions, and implement programs that advance both their objectives and our business strategy. It ensures customers receive accurate, complete, and traceable sustainability data, while guiding them through compliant claims, reporting standards, and emerging regulatory expectations.
This role also acts as the organizational connector between customers and internal teams-bringing together product, data/analytics, sales, and compliance to deliver consistent, credible, and scalable sustainability engagements. By converting customer insights into repeatable tools, case studies, and solution roadmaps, the role accelerates customer adoption, strengthens our market differentiation, and builds trust through evidence-based sustainability performance. The Product Sustainability & Customer Engagement is ultimately responsible for executing customer-facing sustainability programs to drive value creation, deepen partnerships, and enable credible, decision-grade sustainability outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
1. Product Sustainability Strategy & Governance
- Develop and operationalize the company's product sustainability strategy, including Design for Sustainability and circularity principles and product-related emissions reduction roadmaps.
- Establish governance frameworks, policies, and KPIs to ensure sustainability criteria are integrated across product lifecycle stages (design, sourcing, manufacturing, distribution, use phase, and end-of-life).
- Define company-wide product sustainability and circularity metrics, define and regularly track, analyze, and report progress towards targets.
- Translate corporate sustainability goals (GHG reduction, circularity, materials targets, etc.) into product-level requirements and guidelines.
- Engage with external partners, suppliers, and industry coalitions to enhance Sandisk's product sustainability programs and keep pace with best practices and evolving regulations.
- Own recommendations for sustainability-related solutions, including business cases to get buy-in from senior leaders.
2. Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) & Product Carbon Footprinting (PCF)
- Leverage LCAs, PCFs, and environmental impact assessments to inform existing and new product specifications and recommendations.
- Manage product environmental data models using recognized standards (GHG Protocol Product Standard, ISO 14040/44, ISO 14067, EN 15804, etc.).
- Partner with Quality to develop and maintain product-level emissions factors, bill-of-materials data, and lifecycle inventories, and scale processes to enable faster and more efficient development of LCAs and PCFs.
- Produce customer-ready outputs such as environmental product declarations, product category rule-aligned disclosures, and carbon transparency labels.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Market Requirements
- Monitor and incorporate evolving product sustainability regulations into product sustainability strategy and roadmaps, for example:
- EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products (ESPR)
- EU Digital Product Passport (DPP)
- Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)
- External sustainability reporting requirements affecting product data
- Ensure product portfolios meet current and upcoming market, customer, and regulatory expectations.
- Support Quality, Legal, and Procurement teams to maintain compliance documentation and readiness.
4. Customer Sustainability Engagement & Communications
- Support sustainability engagement for priority accounts; shape joint roadmaps and value propositions aligned to customer goals (e.g., decarbonization, circularity, disclosure).
- Translate customer needs into solutions (products, services, data) and quantify environmental and business impact (e.g., avoided emissions, TCO, ROI).
- Capture requirements and feedback to inform product roadmaps, ESG narratives, and strategy prioritization.
- Support preparation of customer-ready emissions summaries, scorecards, questionnaires, attestations, certificates, and digital data feeds.
- Develop product-related sustainability metrics and roadmaps. Measure performance and prepare materials for internal dashboards, external communications and reporting, and public disclosures.
- In partnership with Legal, support marketing teams in ensuring environmental claims meet Federal Trade Commission's Green Guides, ISO 14021, and other relevant standards.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with R&D and Product Engineering to integrate low-carbon design specifications, material substitution, recyclability, disassembly, and circularity principles into new product development.
- Work with Supply Chain to gather supplier-specific primary data, including material footprints and ESG metrics.
- Collaborate with Operations to align product sustainability metrics with manufacturing processes, waste, energy, and water data.
- Support Sales & Marketing with product sustainability claims, certifications, and customer inquiries.
6. Data Management & Tools
- Develop familiarity with and leverage product sustainability data systems, software tools, and LCA databases.
- Assess and drive improved integration between product data, product lifecycle management, enterprise resource planning, supply chain management, and emissions reporting systems.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability Science or related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience in quantitative sustainability workstreams, product development, lifecycle assessment, or environmental compliance.
- Strong understanding of LCA methodologies, product carbon accounting standards, and sustainability reporting frameworks.
- Proven experience with LCA tools, product data systems, and scaling across diverse product portfolios.
- Ability to translate complex technical information into clear recommendations for non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated track record developing or governing product related claims, narratives, or communications in consultation with Legal, Regulatory, and Compliance partners
- Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Sustainability Science, Engineering and/or relevant area of study
- Expert level understanding of eco- and/or sustainable product- design principles, circularity frameworks and/or product development/design.
- Proficiency with EU ESPR, DPP, and EPR requirements, and product-related ESG regulations.
- Familiarity with sustainable design risks, opportunities, and know-how in the semiconductor industry.
- Familiarity with supplier engagement or Scope 3 product-related categories and data accounting and analysis.
- Experience supporting external audits or EPD verification.

- The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
