Position Summary

Data, Analytics & AI is on a mission to create trusted and reusable data products that will connect our value chains and support our strategic commitments. Our vision of data product strategy moves us to a full value chain mindset across data products where these trusted data assets support the integrated value chains. This is an exciting and challenging time, and we need a Product Owner to join our Data Product Delivery team.

Our Data Product Owners play a key role in translating business priorities into actionable work for agile delivery teams. As a Data Product Owner, you are responsible for managing and prioritizing the product backlog, refining requirements, and ensuring data product enhancements deliver measurable business value. Working closely with Data Product Managers, Digital Partners, business stakeholders, and technical teams, you help deliver data capabilities that support decision-making, operational efficiency, and analytics outcomes within an assigned enterprise domain (Commercial, Midstream, Refining, or Corporate Functions).

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages and delivers data product enhancements within an assigned domain, translating business needs into prioritized backlog items, well-defined requirements, and actionable user stories that enable trusted data, analytics, and operational insights.
  • Maintains and executes against product roadmaps and release plans, translating priorities into a refined backlog and actionable delivery increments.
  • Maintains and prioritizes the product backlog, balancing immediate business value, emerging opportunities, technical enablement, and long-term sustainability.
  • Gathers and clarifies business requirements, translating stakeholder needs into actionable user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Engages business stakeholders and data consumers to understand objectives, gather feedback, assess data usage patterns, and inform backlog prioritization.
  • Assesses business objectives, data dependencies, and user needs to prioritize enhancements and maximize the value of enterprise data products.
  • Facilitates communication and planning between business stakeholders, BI development, data engineering, data architecture, data science, and data governance teams.
  • Resolves product-related issues, manages trade-off decisions, and proactively addresses risks and dependencies to keep delivery on track.
  • Represents the data product during planning activities, helping define priorities, dependencies, and delivery commitments across teams.
  • Reviews and accepts completed work, ensuring delivered capabilities meet defined acceptance criteria and stakeholder expectations.
  • Partners with data governance, architecture, and engineering teams to ensure delivered data products meet quality, usability, security, and governance requirements.
  • Monitors data product adoption, stakeholder feedback, and business outcomes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and increased value realization.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of relevant product owner experience.
  • Experience working in Agile delivery teams, including backlog management, user story creation, sprint planning, and acceptance criteria definition.
  • Experience translating business requirements into actionable product and data solutions.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality, reporting, analytics, and enterprise data management concepts.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar Agile planning tools.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), SAFe POPM, or equivalent Agile certification preferred.
  • Energy industry or adjacent industry experience preferred, with an understanding of operational, commercial, financial, or enterprise data domains.

Decision Making - Ability to know when and what decisions should be made and to make several decisions simultaneously in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Product Development - The creation, innovation, enhancement, or improvement of an existing product, or developing an entirely new kind of product to satisfy the requirements of its end-users.

Product Lifecycle Management - The handling of a good as it moves through the typical stages of its product life: development and introduction, growth, maturity/stability, and decline.

User Experience (UX) - User Experience (UX) refers to the overall experience that a person has when interacting with a product, service, or system, especially in terms of how easy or pleasing it is to use.
