Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
As a Product Metallurgist at Wyman Gordon Houston Aero Turbine, this role is pivotal in supporting our key internal and external customers by overseeing various aspects of new jet engine parts qualification, periodic evaluations, failure investigations, and metallurgical technical activities. The primary focus includes ensuring compliance with customer specifications, reducing testing while maintaining quality, and providing essential support to enhance metallurgical processes and testing procedures.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• New Parts Qualification: Conduct and report on qualification results evaluation.
• Process Stability Evaluation: Perform SPC and periodic cutup evaluations and review reports with trend graphs.
• Test Ring Data Evaluation: Analyze test ring data to recommend reduced testing and process improvements.
• Failure Investigations: Investigate production issues and provide technical insights.
• Cost Reduction Projects: Collaborate with design engineering and sales to propose process changes, submit data for process change approvals, and communicate with customers.
• Apply metallurgical expertise to solve production issues.
• Apply metallurgical knowledge to investigation of production issues and optimize forge and heat treat processes.
• Communication of results to customers and work to get qualification and submit approvals.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Flexibility in dealing with production and development issues.
• Computer literacy
• Ability to review and interpret customer specifications and drawing requirements.
• Communications skills and ability to work with colleagues, production, and customers.
• Statistical techniques including six sigma is preferred.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's or MS degree in Metallurgy/Materials Engineering or related field.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
• 1 or more year experience in manufacturing company.
• Mechanical testing and metallographic procedures and standards
WORK CONDITIONS:
• Standard office environment with interaction in production and lab settings.
• Occasional travel to customer sites and production facilities.

HOURS: 1st Shift M-F 7:30am - 4:30pm
