Full Job Description

Job Description:

The Product Manager plays a central role in the BW Packaging growth plan and serves as the general manager of the product line, accountable for business outcomes and empowered to make decisions about what is prioritized, developed, and gets investment. They own and are responsible for the product strategy, roadmap, commercial and operational outcomes, and overall long-term success of the business.

The Product Manager leads the strategy, performance, and lifecycle of the product line by bringing together customer insights, market intelligence, and cross-functional expertise to drive innovation, growth, and profitability. Through active listening, meaningful engagement, influence, and shared accountability, they align engineering, operations, sales, innovation, marketing, finance, and service around a common vision and make informed trade-off decisions that maximize value for both customers and the business. Functional leaders retain responsibility for the day-to-day execution of their organizations, while the Product Manager ensures priorities remain aligned, decisions support the product strategy, and the organization delivers a cohesive customer experience.

In essence, the Product Manager owns the "what" and the "why," while functional leaders own the expertise, execution, and consistency of the "how," creating shared accountability for product line performance and customer outcomes.

Operating via a cross functional team, the Product Manager drives product line P&L impact by balancing customer value, market opportunity, technical product strategy, operational capability, and financial performance to drive sustainable growth. Uses disciplined, insight-led approaches to fuel growth, strengthen competitiveness, improve profitability, and deliver measurable value to customers and the business.

Key Responsibilities

Market Understanding

  • Continuously monitor customer needs, market trends, and competitor activity to inform product strategy.
  • Lead or support Voice of Customer (VOC) activities to embed customer input into roadmap decisions.
  • Identify key industry partners and associations to strengthen market position.
  • Establish and maintain strong feedback loops with Sales, Business Development, and Marketing teams to continuously gather market intelligence, customer insights, competitive information, and emerging opportunities.

Product Vision and Lifecycle Management

  • Define, manage and drive the product vision, roadmap, and priorities aligned with portfolio-level strategy.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in execution, balancing short-term wins and long-term right-to-win investments.
  • Manage the full product lifecycle, including product introductions, enhancements, rationalization, and end-of-life decisions, while driving toward standardized, configurable solutions with minimal custom engineering.

Growth and Profitability

  • Own product line business performance, including accountability for revenue growth, profitability, market share, and achievement of financial objectives.
  • Manage product line P&L performance by monitoring revenue, margins, pricing, costs, and investment priorities, taking corrective actions as needed to achieve business targets.
  • Develop and maintain product pricing strategies aligned with customer value, competitive positioning, and profitability objectives.
  • Track and manage product performance metrics including orders, revenue, margin, market share, win/loss trends, and customer adoption for new equipment, OEM, and rebuilds/upgrades, and services.
  • Monitor competitive performance, market share, and win rates, identifying actions required to strengthen BW Packaging’s market position.
  • Collaborate with Finance to develop business cases, assess ROI, NPV, and project risk, and prioritize investments across the product lifecycle.
  • Identify priority market segments, customer verticals, strategic accounts, and product differentiators that support growth objectives and guide commercial and marketing investments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Execution

  • Direct product-level cross-functional teams spanning engineering, operations, supply chain, innovation, commercial, and finance.
  • Align stakeholders to roadmap priorities and manage risk mitigation plans.
  • Validate customer-driven feature requests and guide engineering resourcing.

Sales Enablement and Commercial Support

  • Partner with Sales, Business Development, and Marketing to shape go-to-market strategies, customer targeting, differentiated value propositions, pricing strategies, integrated marketing campaigns, and selling tools.
  • Build trusted relationships with Sales and Business Development teams, creating a continuous feedback loop between customers, the market, and the product organization to inform priorities and investment decisions.
  • Provide leadership and recommendations for product pricing, positioning, and value capture strategies that support growth and profitability objectives.
  • Collaborate with Marketing to evaluate campaign effectiveness, market engagement, and commercial outcomes, using data and insights to refine product positioning and market priorities.
  • Provide content for product training and commercialization plans.
  • Serve as the product and market subject matter expert, representing BW Packaging in customer engagements, trade shows, industry associations, and thought leadership forums.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to building a robust innovation portfolio aligned with customer needs and market potential.
  • Ensure disciplined governance through phase-gate processes, ensuring successful commercialization and sustained growth.
  • Collaborate with Innovation, Product, and Strategy leaders on transformational initiatives.

Strategic Leadership and Impact

  • Align product line strategy and execution with BW Packaging’s ambition to be a formidable global packaging solutions provider.
  • Fall in love with solving customer problems and tenaciously improve the lives of people — operating with discipline, leveraging scale, and delivering with process excellence.
  • Turn strategy into integrated, cross-functional plans that create measurable value for customers and the business.
  • Prioritize actions and investments aligned with right-to-win criteria, driving innovation, competitiveness, and long-term value.
  • Champion teamwork and shared accountability across product, engineering, commercial, operations, innovation, and finance functions.
  • Deliver on commitments and enable BW Packaging to grow as a global leader through disciplined execution and transformational innovation.

 Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, marketing, or related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Strong commercial and technical acumen, preferably in packaging, automation, or industrial systems
  • Financial literacy, including understanding of product-level revenue, cost drivers, pricing strategy, profitability and ROI
  • Proven success leading initiatives and influencing outcomes within cross-functional, matrixed organizations without direct authority.
  • Flexibility to take on evolving priorities in a fast-moving, growth-focused environment
