Full Job Description
What are the responsibilities of a Compliance Engineer at Ciena?

The chosen candidate will be part of a product integrity team which has product-level global regulatory and commercial compliance responsibility on leading edge packet optical transport and switching products.

Your role will involve collaborating with product development teams to define regulatory/commercial test requirements, develop/manage compliance programs, advise on product compliance derisk activities, and advise on test requirements for customer lab engagements. This includes design, documentation and marking requirements to satisfy the dependencies for regulatory/commercial conformance.

General Activities
  • Work closely with product development primes to scope and plan test programs to demonstrate compliance to applicable EMC, safety and commercial compliance.
  • Work closely with test partners during the execution of compliance test programs to demonstrate compliance and obtain reports/certifications.
  • Assist sales and field support personnel with customer issues related to non-compliance, bid proposals/responses and conformity assessment.
  • Assist global account teams with product homologation activities.


The Must Haves:
  • Working knowledge of commercial standards/specifications in the telecom networking space: Telcordia GR-63-CORE, Telcordia GR-1089-CORE, Telcordia GR-3108, Telcordia GR-487, ETSI EN 300 019-X-Y, ETSI EN 300 132-Y
  • Working knowledge of various country approvals, regulatory marks and homologation processes.
  • Familiarity of global/international EMC standards in the ITE and Telecom Networking space is required: CISPR 32 / EN 55032, CISPR 35 / EN55035, CISPR 24 / EN 55024, FCC Part 15, ICES-003, ETSI EN 300 386, IEC/EN 61000-X-Y
  • Familiarity of ITE product safety standards is preferred: IEC/UL/EN 60950-1, IEC/EN 60825-1, IEC/EN 60825-2, IEC/EN 62368-1
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (OTN, Ethernet, SONET, Fiber Channel) is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering
  • ~ 7 years' experience minimum
  • Excellent Communications, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are essential.
  • Experience with Telcordia specifications
  • Experience with compliance testing


Nice to Have:
  • Design Experience (board design and EMC)
  • External test facilities
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (OTN, Ethernet, SONET, Fiber Channel) is preferred.


Pay Range:
The salary range for this role is $77, 500 - $164, 500

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
