Technical Ceramics business of Morgan Advanced Materials engineers high performance functional and structural ceramic materials, components and sub-assemblies to address customer-specific technical challenges.

The business employs advanced materials science and applications expertise to produce parts that enhance reliability or improve the performance of its customers’ products. Much of what the global business unit makes is used in demanding, harsh or critical environments. Our Technical Ceramics business works in selected segments of the electronics, energy, healthcare, industrial, petrochemicals, security and transport markets, typically in close collaborative customer relationships.

Responsibilities

Position Summary

 

The Product Engineer is responsible for the successful introduction, setup, and continuous improvement of products within the manufacturing environment. This role serves as the bridge between Engineering, Operations, Production Planning, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure products are accurately defined, efficiently manufactured, and properly maintained within the ERP system.

 

The Product Engineer owns the creation and maintenance of Bills of Material (BOMs), manufacturing routings, labor standards, and production documentation. Working closely with supervisors and department leaders, this position develops manufacturing methods, validates production estimates, and drives continuous improvement in productivity, quality, and cost.

 

Salary range: $85K - $125K DOE plus a potential 20% bonus 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Product Introduction & ERP Setup

  • Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), routings, and manufacturing data within the ERP system.
  • Lead new product introductions from engineering release through production launch.
  • Review customer specifications, drawings, and requirements to establish manufacturing processes.
  • Ensure product configurations and manufacturing master data are accurate and complete.
  • Coordinate implementation of Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and product revisions

Manufacturing Process Development

  • Develop manufacturing methods and process flows for new and existing products.
  • Define optimal production sequences, work centers, and processing requirements.
  • Partner with supervisors and operators to evaluate manufacturability and identify process improvements.
  • Establish tooling, equipment, and resource requirements for new products.
  • Support process validation and first article production activities.

Labor Standards & Routing Accuracy

  • Determine setup times, run rates, and labor standards for manufacturing operations.
  • Work directly with production departments to establish realistic routing estimates.
  • Monitor actual performance against standards and update routings as necessary.
  • Improve the accuracy of production planning, scheduling, and capacity analysis through reliable manufacturing data.
  • Support capacity planning efforts by maintaining accurate process and labor standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as the primary operations contact for manufacturing readiness of new products.
  • Collaborate with Production, Planning, Quality, Sales, Purchasing, and Engineering teams.
  • Facilitate communication regarding manufacturing capabilities, timing estimates, process requirements, and constraints.Participate in production meetings and problem-solving activities related to new and existing products.

Costing & Operational Support

  • Support quoting activities by providing labor estimates, routing information, and manufacturing input.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs and recommend process improvements to improve profitability.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce cycle times, improve yields, and increase throughput.
  • Assist with make-versus-buy evaluations and manufacturing feasibility assessments.

Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance safety, quality, delivery, and productivity.
  • Analyze production performance data and recommend corrective actions.
  • Drive standardization of processes and best practices across departments.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications

Qualifications

 

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) requirements, and translating those requirements into accurate BOMs, routings, manufacturing processes, and inspection requirements.
  • Experience developing Bills of Material (BOMs) and manufacturing routings.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, labor standards, and production planning.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of time to visit customers alongside sales.

Preferred

  • Experience within Metals, Casting, Machining, Aerospace, Medical, or regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience with D365 or similar ERP systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Understanding of manufacturing costing and capacity planning methodologies.
