The impact you'll makeAt Lam, as a Product Engineer, you thrive in high-stakes, dynamic environment, driving product development at the forefront of the semiconductor equipment industry. Collaborating closely with customers and internal teams, you will provide real-time problem-solving to customer challenges and to enhance our products. Your passion for engaging with customers and innovative engineering drives progress in our industry, tackling the once unsolvable.
What you'll doManages new product introduction and production support engineering for a specific product or group of products from inception of ideas to in-house qualification to supporting at the customer. Participates in design, process, test, reliability and manufacturing engineering to solve product issues and production problems. Develops and sustains process improvements to reduce production costs and increase yields.
Develops new or modified hardware designs for electrostatic chucks (ESC's) and supporting hardware in Lam plasma etchers. ESC's are a highly multidisciplinary technology and offers opportunity to innovate on the intersection of physics, materials, and software algorithms to provide our customers differentiated solutions. Reviews process and customer requirements to define engineering specifications for ESC's and ESC subsystems. Defines testing requirements for production-readiness qualification, reviews and defines process of record (POR) at parts suppliers, assesses suitability of materials used in production, and supports field issues related to this hardware. Part of an innovation process to develop novel solutions to one of the most challenging areas of an etch chamber. Handles full ESC life cycle from development, through product release and field support. Coordinates design reviews, risk assessments, and POR reviews with Lam engineering personnel to ensure successful product release and follow Lam product design business processes. Compiles and evaluates test data to determine appropriate hardware limitations and assesses risk of field failure according to customer process conditions.
Lam etch customers continue to tighten requirements on defectivity, process window, and uniformity, to meet the needs of ever shrinking device dimensions. Electrostatic chucks are at the forefront of these needs, as thermal uniformity, voltage process window, and to a large extent, defectivity limits are defined by this piece of hardware. Lam is continually improving ESC performance in all of these areas to meet customer needs. Understanding performance of this particular part of Lam plasma etchers requires a multidisciplinary background, incorporating elements of materials science, physics, mechanical and electrical engineering, to fully understand the implications of design changes on customer processing.
Senior engineers in this role are leading a small team of engineers and lab personnel to coordinate multiple subsystems to deliver the wafer requirements required of the next generation of hardware.

- Semiconductor or product design experience
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability
- Effective communicator with the desire to understand all aspects of a problem at a fundamental level.
- Experience designing, specifying, building, operating and maintaining capital equipment test apparatus.
- Proficient in Python, MATLAB or other similar scientific computing language
- Fundamental understanding of heat transfer, mass transfer, vacuum pressure and flow, thermodynamics and basic mechanics of materials
Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
