Product Development Engineer II
  • Location: St. Paul, MN - no relocation assistance provided
  • Generally requires four days per week onsite, with schedule flexibility to accommodate evening meetings with colleagues in Japan.
  • Up to 10% domestic and international travel, potentially including travel to Japan.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US without requiring sponsorship


The Role

Join our Research & Development team in Maplewood, MN as a Product Development Engineer II supporting commercially released products, with a primary focus on our industrial product portfolio.

In this role, you will provide engineering support for product and manufacturing changes involving materials, suppliers, processes, equipment, and product improvements. You will evaluate technical impacts, support testing and qualification activities, investigate technical issues, and develop engineering documentation to ensure products continue to meet performance, quality, and manufacturing requirements.

You will collaborate closely with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Supplier Quality, Operations, and other cross-functional partners. A key component of this position is working with colleagues in Japan, including communicating technical information and coordinating engineering activities across U.S. and Japanese teams.

What You'll Do
  • Support changes to commercially released products, including changes involving materials, suppliers, manufacturing processes, equipment, and product improvements.
  • Evaluate the technical impact of proposed product and manufacturing changes.
  • Plan and support testing, qualification, verification, and validation activities as appropriate.
  • Investigate product, process, and manufacturing issues and support development of effective technical solutions.
  • Prepare clear and accurate engineering documentation to support product changes, investigations, testing, and qualification activities.
  • Analyze engineering data and use results to support technical decisions and recommendations.
  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Supplier Quality, Operations, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Work directly with manufacturing and production teams to understand processes, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements.
  • Communicate technical information and coordinate engineering activities with colleagues in Japan.
  • Support change control, risk assessment, and other quality-system activities associated with sustaining commercially released products.


How You'll Get Here

Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English.
  • 1+ years of relevant product or engineering support experience; additional related experience will also be considered.
  • Experience supporting product, material, process, equipment, or supplier changes.
  • Ability to analyze technical problems and support testing, qualification, verification, and validation activities.
  • Strong technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Work may include manufacturing or laboratory environments requiring appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).


Preferred Experience
  • Experience supporting commercially released or sustaining products.
  • Experience working directly with manufacturing or production teams.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 13485, GMP, or similar quality systems.
  • Familiarity with change control, risk assessment, FMEA, and qualification activities.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and interpretation of engineering data.
  • Experience with industrial filtration, separation technologies, membranes, porous materials, fluid handling, or related industrial products.
  • Experience collaborating with engineering or manufacturing teams in Japan.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to understand and evaluate relationships among product design, materials, manufacturing processes, and product performance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across global, cross-functional, and cross-cultural teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and relevant engineering or quality systems.
  • Ability and willingness to work directly in a manufacturing environment.


Compensation and Benefits
The salary range estimated for this position based in Minnesota is $75,000.00-$105,000.00.
