Full Job Description

The Plant Engineering organization provides engineering oversight, program support, and qualified staff to support the Hanford Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) mission. Performs Management of Change (MOC) activities for the Chemical Safety Management Program (CSMP).Directs project efforts for CSMP process steps for procedure, design, and other change documents where the changes are determined to be applicable to process chemical safety.Ensures appropriate plant management, plant engineering, and safety review is performed to support changes applicable to CSMP reviews.Develops procedures, guides, and forms for system safety/chemical safety efforts. Performs assessment and line surveillance activities to verify CSMP processes and interfacing program processes in design and plant engineering are implemented as required.Integrates change management for overall safety related project changes with nuclear engineering, plant engineering, and safety and health organizations.Supports overall performance of the Nuclear and Chemical Safety 6 System Safety functional group.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Reviews design documents, operating procedures, work planning documents to support identification of hazards and appropriate determination of hazard controls and safeguards is completed.
  • Supports safety management program improvement and implementation
  • Reviews changes related to chemical safety impacts, introduction of new process chemical, or significant changes to ensure that changes with impacts to hazards to workers, public, or the environment are provided to the appropriate approval authority.
  • Supports facility walkdowns for job hazard analysis and worker safety and health efforts.
  • Supports implementation of 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health and Process Safety Management 29 CFR 1910.119 requirements.
  • Supports Worker Safety through Design reviews and document development.
  • Perform assessments and surveillances for chemical safety management program. Supports process hazard analysis efforts.

REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent education) in an appropriate engineering discipline or related science from a four-year accredited college or university. This position is subject to DOE O 426.2and the selected candidate must meet education and experience requirements in accordance with that order. Must have 2 years of job-related experience with 1 year of nuclear experience. Nuclear experience when used in reference to nonreactor nuclear facilities, is experience acquired at any facility in which radioactive materials are routinely handled, stored, processed, or utilized

Experience:

  • 10 years of professional experience in the field of engineering, operations, or nuclear safety.
  • Provides technical expertise/guidance to engineering, operations, and maintenance regarding operability safety and process chemical safety
  • Reviewsdesign documents, operating procedures, and work planning documents and with focus on document changes to ensure identification of hazards and appropriate determination of hazard controls and safeguards is completed and prior to approving changes.
  • Leads and supports development and updates to program documents and to associated training materials.
  • Supports safety management program improvements and implementation
  • Leads reviews of changes related to chemical safety impacts, introduction of newprocess chemicals, or significant changes to ensure that changes with impacts to hazards to workers, public, or the environment are provided to the appropriate approval authority.
  • Supports implementation of 10 CFR 851 Worker Safety and Health and Process Safety Management 29 CFR 1910.119 requirements
  • Supports Worker Safety through Design reviews and document development.
  • Interfaces with the DOE-client to communicate status, answer questions, and provide factual accuracy checks.
  • Supportsand facilitates process hazard analysis efforts. Provides rotational on-call shift support for chemical safety hazard controls expertise needed whenprocesschemical hazards are present. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the personnel assigned to the group on multiple tasks
  • Assist groups in organizational goals and objectives within the assigned area of responsibility
  • Supervise daily activities with other Plant Engineering disciplines, maintenance, and operations
  • Coordinate and direct the work of assigned personnel
  • Ensure personnel assigned to the group obtain and maintain qualifications necessary to perform their tasks
  • Ensure personnel assigned to the group have sufficient resources to complete assignments
  • Monitor group and personnel performance and ensure appropriate communication to management is provided
  • Conduct employee performance and feedback reviews, goal setting, and other activities related to employee growth and development
  • Continually upgrade technical knowledge, training, capabilities, and evaluation of assigned personnel
  • Provide technical direction, training, and evaluation of assigned personnel
  • Establish and manage group schedules and budgets ensuring accurate status and timely communications are provided to management

Occasional loading, transport, and unloading of tools and/or supplies specific to an activity

Compensation Details:

$131,484.26 - $211,024.41
