Summary:

Process Engineers evaluate, select, develop, and implement programs for product and process characterization, continuous product and process improvements, equipment design, and specific installation and implementation.

Responsibilities:

Process Engineer II:

  • Perform product and process characterization.
  • Perform work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features that have precedents and require investigation of a limited scope.
  • Complete assignments that usually include one or more of the following: testing of materials, preparation of workbook and process specifications, process study, research investigations, report preparation, and other activities of limited scope requiring knowledge of principles and techniques commonly employed.
  • May coordinate the work of technicians or others who assist in specific assignments.
  • Maintain accurate records of data, procedures, experiments, tests, and findings for future reference with record retention, which may include the use of lab notebooks.
  • Analyze and utilize data to ensure continuous improvement in products, processes, and systems under the guidance of more experienced engineers or supervisor/manager.
  • Prepare regular periodic reports that summarize outcomes, process improvements, achievement, challenges, and roadblocks.
  • Participate in process troubleshooting activities and propose solutions to operational challenges.
  • Support the implementation of safety procedures and guidelines within the manufacturing facility.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance process efficiency and product quality.
  • Learn and adhere to industry regulations and standards related to chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Initiates action to prevent the occurrence of non-conformities.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization.
  • Design and conduct experiments to test process improvements and assess their impact on product quality and yield.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement process changes and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Provide technical support to production teams, troubleshoot process issues, and propose solutions to ensure smooth operations.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation, including P&IDs, standard operating procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Assist in the training of new team members and provide guidance on best practices in chemical manufacturing processes.
  • Contributes new ideas to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Complete assignments that meet specified objectives and timelines with moderate complexity.
  • May present project findings at internal and externals meetings.
  • May provide technical guidance to technicians and other process engineers.

Process Engineer III:

  • Same duties as Process Engineer II.
  • Additional duties as Process Engineer III:
    • May supervise or coordinate the work of technicians or others who assist in specific assignments.
    • Responsible for design, specifications, and justification of facilities.
    • Lead process improvement projects, from conception to implementation, to enhance operational efficiency, product quality, and yield.
    • Collaborate with R&D teams to scale up new processes from laboratory to pilot plant and full-scale production.
    • Interpret, monitor, and analyze data from experiments and production runs to identify trends, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions for moderately complex issues in non-routine research and data.
    • Develop and maintain process simulation models to optimize unit operations and overall process performance.
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including production, quality control, and maintenance, to provide technical support that ensures seamless integration of process changes.
    • Mentor lower-level engineers, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team.
    • Assist in project and product development planning.


Education & Credentials:

  • Process Engineer II:
    • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related field and 2+ years of chemical manufacturing experience or
    • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline or
    • An equivalent combination of education and related experience.


  • Process Engineer III:
    • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or related science and 4+ years of chemical manufacturing experience or
    • Master's degree and 2+ years of chemical manufacturing experience or
    • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or related discipline or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
