Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Scope of Role

  • Improve existing manufacturing processes, equipment and capabilities
  • Support or lead continuous improvement activities, new materials or process receivership, cost reduction projects, and equipment installs and debug.
  • Solve material and process issues in production through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts
  • Document and share material and process knowledge across organizations


Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering-level production support to manufacturing operation and actively engage in plant safety initiatives and projects.
  • Solve process issues through data analysis, experimentation, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Provide engineering expertise for fundamental understanding of manufacturing issues.
  • Lead and/or provide support for projects involving cost reduction, process optimization, and new products.
  • Develop and maintain systems to monitor and proactively address material/equipment/process performance, including trend analysis and implementation plans
  • Receive and integrate new technologies to improve process capability while ensuring proper processes are followed during transfer.


Location, Hours and Travel Requirements

  • Location: Hickory, NC
  • Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time: 8 hours/day; 40 hours/week
  • Travel: Up to 25% to various manufacturing sites in the division.


Experiences/Education - Required

  • BS or MS in the following Engineering Disciplines: Materials, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Ceramic Engineering
  • 2+ years' experience in Manufacturing Environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work on an independent basis in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work effectively on all levels of an organization
  • Use scientific method and engineering principles to solve problems thoroughly and effectively, using well-designed and executed processes
  • Strong data analysis and statistical skills. Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Access, and Minitab, or equivalent
  • Determine and recommend best solution from a series of alternatives within plant guidelines
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.


Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting.
  • Project management experience.

This position does not support immigration sponsorship.

The range for this position is $82,974.00 - $114,090.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
