Salary range for position: $90,000 - $110,000, commensurate with experience.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Process Engineer-I will play a key role in sustaining and supporting the existing 24/7 Back-End Assembly production, driving continuous improvement to support quality, cost and delivery goal, as well as supporting next generation product development and various R&D projects. This role will utilize engineering and statistical approaches to perform problem solving, process optimization and identifying key parameters for the process.

Knowledge: Developing professional expertise, applies company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues.

Job Complexity: Works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Builds productive internal/external working relationships.

Supervision: Normally receives general instructions on routine work (with minimal supervision for day-to-day production support), detailed instructions on new projects and assignments.

Experience: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or equivalent work experience.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Support day-to-day production, e.g. interacting with supervisors, technicians, operators, and other engineers to dispose of lots, identify faulty tools, provide technical support, and correct processing errors.
  • Continuous process monitoring (SPC, yield), including data analysis, identifying trends, finding root causes on excursions and finding solutions to correct the problem and improve the process
  • Drive use of problem-solving methodologies (e.g. FMEA, SPC, Control Plans, QFD and Design of Experiments) across manufacturing community
  • Work with Failure Analysis group to analyze product failure data and laboratory test results to determine causes of problems and develop solutions.


  • Prepare/update process documentation and provide operator training and qualification
  • Work closely with development engineering and manufacturing to drive process improvements for Assembly Operations for improvement in yield, output, cost and safety
  • Manage the automation of current and new manufacturing processes, including outsource management of tooling and fixture design, development and build; and coordination with internal resources on tooling and fixture design and development.
  • Work with manufacturing, process development, facilities, quality assurance groups in developing requirements and recommendations for system modifications.
  • Develop project scopes, plan and manage the projects including schedules and budgets within area of expertise
  • Facilitate problem solving and brainstorming activities and participate in and support cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor material performance and evaluate material performance/fit for use
  • Support new product development and make recommendations for material selection, process requirements for assembly process
  • Good interpersonal skills, including working with cross-functional teams, productions, supervisors, peers, and management.
  • Capability in integrative thinking, results oriented, self-awareness, mentoring others, and willingness to make changes
  • Good communication skills. Can produce clear data, presentations, and reports, as well as oral presentations

REQUIRED:
  • BS in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical or related field
  • 2 or more years' experience with high precision assembly/manufacturing, including extensive experience with process automation
  • Must be hands-on
  • Requires on-site presence
  • Engineering approach and SPC knowledge
  • Organizational skills to track and coordinate multiple concurrent projects
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with production technicians, supervisor/leads, other engineers, as well as management
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including, but not limited to, presentations, reports, and process documentation
  • Ability to leverage and delegate responsibility when managing capable professionals
  • Good problem identification and problem-solving skills


DESIRED:
  • Experience in dispense systems, such as Asymtek/Nordson dispense system
  • Experience in pick and place tool, e.g. Datacon
  • Familiar with statistical analysis software, such as JMP, Minitab

  • Works in manufacturing, clean room, and engineering lab environment (at least 60% in cleanroom)
  • Moderate noise (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic)
  • May potentially handle hazardous waste in accordance with the safe work practices defined in Hazardous Communication and Hazardous Waste training programs. Initial training is required upon hiring status and every 3 years thereafter. Employees handling hazardous waste will insure that waste containers in their work areas are properly labeled and dated. Employees will ensure that waste containers are closed after transferring waste to them. Report any incidents involving hazardous waste to supervisor.
