General Purpose of Job:

This position is responsible for leading organizational improvement initiatives by applying industrial/systems engineering methodologies. Requires specialized expertise in the body of knowledge, methods, and skills related to Industrial/Systems Engineering including, but not limited to, project management, data collection and analysis, Lean Six Sigma, change management/culture change, benchmarking, operational and financial analysis and user interface design and human factors engineering to support optimal workflows. This system-level position supports organizational goals to produce efficient, high quality and equitable care delivery and outcomes in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

  • Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.

  • Functions as a consultant as well as facilitates/leads performance improvement projects concerned with the use/application of Lean/Six Sigma tools, integrating industrial/systems engineering principles needed to improve workflow, productivity, safety, and efficiency.
  • Promotes innovative systems thinking through leading enterprise-wide strategic initiatives that impact multiple roles and/or clinical areas.
  • Takes the initiative to identify opportunities to standardize care processes where possible.
  • Supports principles of Systems/Industrial engineering in projects including but not limited to: improving quality of care and patient safety; reducing errors, fatigue, stress and injuries; improving productivity, ease of use, safety, comfort, acceptance, job satisfaction and quality of life.
  • Manages communications to key stakeholders, shepherds approval of changes to systems/processes/policies within the organizational committee structure, trains staff utilizing appropriate tools, implements interventions in a coordinated fashion, and creates sustainment plans for operational management.
  • Leverages and applies key principles of change management, manages culture shifts, and functions as an advocate for the voice of the customer. Creates and maintains strong and productive relationships with key leadership and stakeholders.
  • Facilitates the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace; encourages others to seek opportunities for different and innovative approaches to addressing problems and challenges.
  • Generates creative approaches to addressing problems and opportunities; identifies and weighs options; makes sound decisions after reviewing all relevant information; anticipates and plans for potential problems; takes calculated risks; recognizes the impact of solutions.
  • Travels to other Driscoll locations as necessary to perform essential functions of job and to support standardization of processes when appropriate.  
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Education and/or Experience:

  • 2+ years post-degree experience.
  • 3 years of involvement in cross functional teams.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with EMR Applications

Education/Licensure/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems/Industrial Engineering;
  • Master’s degree in Industrial/Systems Engineering/ Human Factors System Engineering preferred.
  • Work experience using industrial/systems engineer principles. Six Sigma/Lean Certification preferred.
  • Must have an active and unrestricted driver's license.
