Scope of Role

Corning's fiber optic cable manufacturing operations are at the heart of global connectivity infrastructure - and our Process Engineers are central to keeping that engine running at its best. In this role, you'll apply your engineering expertise to design, optimize, and continuously improve manufacturing processes, driving quality, efficiency, and production readiness across the plant floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze process data to assess capability, identify trends, and lead continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives using data-driven methods
  • Provide engineering problem-solving support to production operations; implement process, equipment, and safety improvements in collaboration with operators, team leaders, and peers
  • Manage capital projects end-to-end - from financial justification and equipment specification through installation, qualification, and operator training
  • Support the transfer of new cabling technologies, materials, and processes from development into production, ensuring repeatability, documentation accuracy, and production readiness
  • Establish product qualification plans and maintain accurate manufacturing documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and preventive maintenance records


Location, Work Hours & Travel Requirements

  • Location: Newton, NC
  • Travel: Less than 5%
  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM; off-shift support required as needed


Experiences/Education - Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related technical field
  • 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrated ability to apply the scientific method - developing, testing, and validating hypotheses - to diagnose and resolve manufacturing process issues


Experiences/Education - Desired

  • Experience with statistical analysis tools such as Minitab or OriginPro
  • Familiarity with structured problem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC or PDCA
  • Knowledge of plastic extrusion technologies, cabling processes and equipment, and/or UV-curable technologies
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent experience
  • Project management experience including cost estimation, planning, and execution
  • Experience with statistical process control (SPC) fundamentals
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple technical projects simultaneously and coordinate across engineering and operations teams

The range for this position is $84,932.00 - $116,782.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
