Process Development Engineer - CNC

We are seeking a highly skilled Process Development Engineer - CNC to join our Richmond, California team. You will be responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting CNC programs and machining processes that enable high-quality, efficient, and cost-effective manufacturing of glass aerospace components. This role works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to translate complex design requirements into reliable, scalable machining solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Create, modify, and optimize CNC programs for 3- and 5-axis milling.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and specifications (including GD&T).
  • Select appropriate tools, speeds/feeds, and work-holding methods.
  • Develop setup sheets, tool lists, and machining documentation.
  • Run simulations and prove-outs to validate toolpaths and prevent collisions.
  • Improve machining processes to reduce cycle time, scrap, and tool wear.
  • Support machinists during setups, troubleshooting, and first-article approvals.
  • Collaborate with engineering to recommend machining-friendly design changes.
  • Maintain CAD/CAM files, revision control, and programming standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma).


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 5 years of CNC programming and machining experience
  • Proficient with CAM software (GibbsCAM, Mastercam, Fusion 360, NX, Esprit)
  • Strong understanding of G-code, M-code, and CNC machine operation
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and apply GD&T
  • Knowledge of machining practices, tooling, and materials (glass, metals, composites, plastics)
  • Skilled in troubleshooting machining and programming issues
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork abilities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with GibbsCAM
  • Experience with CNC program verification using simulation software (Predator, Vericut, etc.)
  • Experience with multi-axis machining (4-axis, 5-axis).
  • Background in manufacturing engineering or precision machining.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Lean or Six Sigma training.
  • CAD proficiency (SolidWorks, NX, etc.).
  • Experience in aerospace, medical device, automotive, or high-precision manufacturing.


For California, the base pay range for this role is $91,625-$156,600. This range is provided as a general guideline. Actual compensation will depend on factors such as job responsibilities, relevant experience, education and training, specialized skills, and current market conditions.
