What You'll Be DoingJob Scope: Generally responsible for producing operations and mechanical maintenance procedures for various industrial systems and equipment. This work will be performed under general supervision.
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Ability to review plant P&IDs, specifications and installation, operating and maintenance manuals and identify equipment and systems requiring maintenance.
Providing operations and mechanical maintenance procedures in client’s format to accompany plant work packages.
Ability to search various databases to identify and categorize documents for use by all teammates.
Checking procedures to assure technical correctness.
Ideal BackgroundEducation: High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Associate degree in Engineering Technology is highly preferred.
Certification: Certification is not required for this position.
Experience: This position requires 4+ years of relevant industrial experience in technical writing or design.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Familiarity with gear reducers, pumps, couplings, motors, lubrication systems, hydraulic systems, etc.
Ability to prioritize work and follow up on directed assignments.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook as well as other software as needed.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

What You’ll Be DoingThe Experienced Industrial Procedure Writer is responsible for developing, revising, and validating detailed operating, maintenance, startup, shutdown, emergency, troubleshooting, and equipment-specific procedures for industrial facilities. This position requires the ability to independently review complex technical information, work directly with subject matter experts and facility personnel, and convert technical requirements into clear, accurate, and field-usable procedures. Work will generally be performed with limited supervision and must comply with client-specific templates, document-control requirements, applicable industry standards, and established procedure-writing practices.
Primary ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Develop new and revised industrial procedures, including:
- Normal operating procedures
- System startup and shutdown procedures
- Emergency operating and shutdown procedures
- Mechanical and electrical maintenance procedures
- Preventive and corrective maintenance procedures
- Equipment replacement, repair, inspection, and troubleshooting procedures
- System alignment and valve lineup procedures
- Lockout/Tagout/Try and hazardous energy-control instructions
- Commissioning and post-maintenance testing procedures
- Review and interpret technical documents, including:
- Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams
- Process Flow Diagrams
- Electrical one-line diagrams
- Mechanical and electrical drawings
- Equipment data sheets
- Engineering specifications
- Original Equipment Manufacturer manuals
- Cause-and-effect diagrams
- Control narratives
- Existing procedures and work packages
- Identify systems, equipment, components, valves, instruments, controls, hazards, prerequisites, precautions, limitations, and acceptance criteria required to perform the work safely and correctly.
- Conduct or participate in facility walkdowns, field verifications, document reviews, and interviews with operations, maintenance, engineering, commissioning, safety, and other subject matter experts.
- Translate complex technical information into clear, concise, sequential, and field-usable instructions.
- Write procedure steps using approved human-performance and procedure-writing practices, including single-action steps, clear component identification, appropriate warnings and cautions, and measurable verification criteria.
- Ensure procedures are technically accurate, complete, properly formatted, and consistent with plant conditions and client requirements.
- Perform technical and editorial reviews of procedures prepared by other writers.
- Incorporate client comments, redlines, field changes, engineering revisions, and review feedback into controlled procedure revisions.
- Identify missing, conflicting, or unclear technical information and develop Requests for Information for client resolution.
- Search document-management systems, shared databases, engineering records, and other information sources to locate and organize applicable technical documentation.
- Maintain document traceability, revision control, comment resolution, and supporting records throughout the procedure-development process.
- Manage assigned procedures, priorities, budgets, and schedules while communicating progress, risks, and information needs to the Technical Manager or Project Manager.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of procedure templates, writing standards, quality-control tools, and internal work processes.
Ideal BackgroundEducation: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. An associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering technology, industrial technology, technical communication, operations, maintenance, or a related technical field is preferred.Relevant industrial experience may be considered in place of formal education.Certification: Professional certification is not required.Procedure Professionals Association certification, maintenance or operations qualifications, technical-writing certification, or other applicable industry credentials are preferred.Experience: This position requires a minimum of four years of relevant experience developing technical procedures for industrial facilities.Experience should include procedure development within one or more of the following environments:- Power generation

Candidates must demonstrate experience independently developing procedures from engineering drawings, equipment manuals, field information, and subject matter expert input.

- Strong proofreading, editing, document-formatting, and quality-control skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clients, project managers, technical managers, engineers, operators, maintenance personnel, and other procedure writers.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and follow through on review comments and directed actions.

- Experience writing procedures in client-controlled templates and document-control environments.
- Experience performing plant walkdowns and field validations.
- Experience developing procedures for startup, shutdown, emergency response, Lockout/Tagout/Try, system alignment, maintenance, commissioning, or troubleshooting activities.
- Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of less-experienced procedure writers.
Physical and Work Requirements- Ability to perform computer-based work for extended periods.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to travel to industrial facilities when required.
- Ability to walk through active industrial environments, climb stairs and ladders, and access operating and maintenance areas when conducting field walkdowns.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment while working at client facilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment and maintain reliable communication with project team members.
