What you’ll be doing
As a Private Investment Counsellor, you will be responsible for building and maintaining a portfolio of high-net-worth clients through various prospecting methods such as networking, telemarketing, seminars, trade shows and other marketing tools. You will apply extensive in-depth knowledge to present a broad array of products and services to clients including individual equities, fixed-income offerings, managed products, third-party investments and insurance, and other solutions to meet clients’ financial needs. You will have ownership of processes and milestones, connecting people and networks, and drawing on the Bank’s broader team and supporting our community. The role devises new methods to advise clients using strong analytic and inductive thinking, delivering excellence every day with high-quality technology and service, making clients’ goals their own.

How you’ll succeed
- Client Service – Develop strong and effective working relationships with clients and third parties, such as Accountants working with clients. Full accountability to service the investment needs of high net worth clients in portfolio. Understand the specific needs of clients, including their tolerance for risk and long-term objectives and recommend appropriate asset mix based on client needs. Proactively communicate with clients managing client meetings, handling enquiries, providing information, and fulfilling client expectations overall and identifying new opportunities to grow assets under management. Has full accountability to continue to profitably grow the client base and to increase assets under management by developing and following a comprehensive business and marketing plan. Monitor overall Portfolio and individual client situations, to ensure maximum productivity and profitability is achieved. Maintain a positive public visibility within assigned area of market. Regularly review major business and economic events in the market to identify impact and potential to grow the business.
- Business Development – Proactively approach business development activities to identify, attract and win new business by primarily working high net worth clients, institutions, and businesses. Network regularly with existing customers and professional networks to build relationships and earn referral business.Utilize appropriate opportunity management techniques to increase the profitability of the existing portfolio and minimize risks. Build relationships with other business partners to ensure a level of service delivery that is seamless and timely. Proactively work with key CIBC partners across CIBC to grow our high net worth client assets. Maintain communication channels with CIBC Wealth Management partners to ensure maximum opportunity for business growth. Participate in the high performance sales culture as part of PWM / CPIC.
- Operational Excellence - Support the Investment Counselor through the Investment Policy cycle from creation to trading implementation. Ensure day-to-day activities are compliant with policies, procedures, guidelines and legislation/regulations and escalate potential issues to Market Leader. Maintain appropriate industry registration status. Keep up-to-date with current events, overall economic and financial environment, trends, products, selling techniques, etc. and in particular those related to area of specialty. Analyze market data to identify activities or conditions that may impact business.
Who you are
- You’re an accredited professional with a CFA or CIM designation or equivalent designation achieved and have equivalent experience and eligible to be fully registered as ICPM. Having a CFP, CPA, LLB, TEP and/or FEA is an asset. You are a registered Advising Representative (AR).
- You have a degree in business or a related field. Having a MBA, is an asset.
- You can demonstrate extensive investment industryknowledge and experience in structuring individual, complex investment solutions for high net worth clients. You have experience in structuring individual, complex investment solutions for high net worth clients. You have developed knowledge of sales management skills including sales models, principles and techniques sufficient to develop sales strategies and effectively sell CPIC tailored solutions. Strong financial analysis skills sufficient to provide expert advice on complex, unique and high value deals.
- You put our clients first. You have developed relationship management skills and possess the investment credibility to make persuasive recommendations to a sophisticated, knowledgeable and high net-worth client group to achieve assigned sales and asset under management targets.
