About the Opportunity

Miller Johnson's Private Client Trust & Estates practice is a longstanding and sophisticated practice with deep roots in West Michigan and a strong reputation for advising high net worth and ultra-high net worth individuals, families, business owners, and fiduciaries on complex estate planning and wealth preservation matters. Our attorneys serve as trusted advisors on issues involving multi-generational wealth transfer, business succession planning, charitable giving strategies, estate and gift tax planning, trust and estate administration, and asset protection.

As the firm continues to expand the reach of this highly regarded practice into Southeast Michigan, we are seeking an accomplished Private Client Trust & Estates attorney with an established practice to join our growing Detroit office. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial attorney to leverage the strength of an established platform, sophisticated clients, and deep bench experience while playing a meaningful role in growing the practice's presence in one of Michigan's most dynamic markets.

What You'll Do

As a Member of our Private Client team, you will:
  • Advise high net worth individuals and families on sophisticated estate planning matters designed to preserve wealth and protect their legacies.
  • Develop and implement customized estate planning and wealth transfer strategies tailored to each client's goals and circumstances.
  • Counsel clients on business succession planning, charitable giving strategies, estate and gift tax planning, and asset protection matters.
  • Draft and review wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and other estate planning documents.
  • Guide clients through probate and trust administration matters with practical, thoughtful counsel.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice areas to deliver comprehensive legal solutions that address the full scope of clients' needs.
  • Mentor and support the professional development of junior attorneys while fostering a culture of learning and collaboration.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen existing client relationships and cultivate new business opportunities.
  • Help shape the strategic direction and continued growth of Miller Johnson's Private Client practice.

  • Significant experience advising high net worth individuals and families on sophisticated trusts and estates matters.
  • Demonstrated expertise in estate planning, probate, trust administration, and related tax considerations.
  • Experience with advanced estate planning techniques, including charitable planning, wealth transfer strategies, and business succession planning.
  • An established portable book of business.
  • Strong business development and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent judgment, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • The ability to navigate sensitive and confidential matters with discretion and professionalism.
