  • Install, update, maintain, and secure Linux, OLVM, OVM, and Oracle Linux systems and related subsystems.

  • Manage a diverse environment of over 400 on-premises and cloud virtual and physical servers.
  • Automate server builds and maintenance tasks using tools like Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent automation solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including NOC, SOC, database, and Windows administration, to ensure service availability and alignment with SLAs.
  • Evaluate and select infrastructure software and hardware while maintaining vendor relationships and driving continuous process improvements.
  • Report system status, manage compliance, and support internal communications related to upgrades and process enhancements.

Job Overview:

The Linux Principle Engineer will be a senior member of a team that manages 24x7x365 operations across several Data Centers and cloud environments. You will establish guidelines and give direction to Linux Administrators for maximum availability and performance of resources in Development, QA, and Production environments. Responsible for Linux server architecture, automation, design, and integrations. Works closely with Vestis Corp NOC & SOC, Database Administration, Windows Administration, and Storage teams to deliver appropriate services and solutions. Any cloud or Linux certifications are a plus. This role reports to the Linux Systems Manager.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

--Responsible for installation, update, maintenance, and security of Linux, OLVM, OVM and Oracle Linux systems/servers and related subsystems, ensuring that the software is maintained at the desired release level.

--Oversees the implementation of newly developed and purchased Linux solutions.

--Overseas & manages OLVM and Oracle Cloud environment consisting of 400+ on prem and Cloud virtual and physical servers in multiple datacenters.

--Deep understanding of automation tools like ansible and terraform or any other automation tool for server build and maintenance on-prem and Cloud environment (AWS, Azure, or Oracle Cloud).

--Good understanding of SSL certs using OpenSSL or any platform as Entrust or Venafi.

--Ensures maximum availability of Linux, OLVM, OVM and Oracle Linux resources to users and production applications.

--Manages various Linux, OLVM, OVM and Oracle Linux environments in support of business processing requirements.

--Provides support for complex problems related to Linux system software and Identity integrations.

--Analyzes current systems software, proposed modifications, and new software for impact on installation problems, standards, and procedures.

--Reviews requirements for new business projects and applications.

--Involved in the evaluation and selection of Infrastructure software and hardware related to Linux technology.

--Manages the architecture of Linux server solutions including Oracle Linux, OVM, OLVM, Spacewalk, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Xymon, Beyond Trust PWS and backup solutions.

--Works closely with the Managers of Windows systems and Database Administration to support Vestis DR strategies, servers, storage, and backup requirements.

--Accountable for operational excellence, ensuring all systems are reliable, accessible, and secure and meet established SLA's / OLA's for both internal and external customers.

--Vendor Management and product selection including research and selection.

--Seeking out and implementing continuous process improvement opportunities

--Supporting internal communications related to business improvements and processes, system upgrades, and enhancements.

--Build and sustain working relationships with relevant Vestis functional areas.

--Overseeing appropriate vendor relationships related to associated technologies, services, and solutions needed to operate enterprise functions.

--Ensuring accurate and efficient governance policy development and adherence

--Report on statuses when requested.

--Submit all time and expense reporting procedures accurately and timely.

--Maintain good standing and completion on all compliance related matters (i.e., assigned mandatory trainings, actions required from audits, corporate policies, etc.)

--Perform all additional duties and responsibilities based on the direction and guidance of supervisor.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

--Expert knowledge in Oracle Linux Operating systems.

--Skilled and proficient in MS Office O365 suite (i.e., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, Communications Tools, etc.)

--Ability to operate with a customer-centric service approach.

--Ability to establish performance-based relationships with 3rd party vendors and technology providers and versed in setting standards and measurements for IT processes.

--Ability to effectively define a business case, determine return on investment, and measure achievement of the case over time.

--Ability to manage and work on multiple concurrent deliverables at various stages of development and completion.

--Strong collaboration and team-building skills with the ability to create consensus around decisions and mitigate conflicts among teams.

--Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

--Professional level verbal and written communication skills

--Demonstrated attention to detail and quality of work products and communications.

--Willingness to seek out and implement coaching, suggestions, and guidance from others.

Experience/Qualifications:

--This position requires at least 10 year's experience in server administration on a Linux/Unix server platform.

--Hands-on experience with web servers such as Apache Web Server, WebSphere, Tomcat or Red Hat TC Server, and JBoss.

--Ensure necessary working environment and capabilities to effectively carry out responsibilities if working from a Vestis location (remote work or offshore)

--Ability and willingness to handle work related issues during all hours of the day, every day of the week, understanding the responsibility of our organization's requirement for 24/7 production support.

--Ability, willingness, and flexibility to travel as needed for approved work purposes in accordance with project and management schedules.
